Re: 3.2 V6 - removing the oil filter heat exchanger

You seem to need the standard 164 12V oil filter attachment. Ideally, you can find a part number and order this part. I would expect that this item is difficult to remove without damaging it.

Re: 3.2 V6 - removing the oil filter heat exchanger

We know that aluminum expands more than steel with heat, which suggests adding heat. HOWEVER, I can see where Al threads would lock into steel threads when hot. This explains why there is a rule to remove spark plugs in an Al head only when cold. One suggestion is to heat, tap. Then, totally cool be...

Re: 24 valve camshafts

In addition, 156, 164 and 166 use the same cam locks. The exception is the GTA which uses a different cam profile and different cam locks.

Re: Post some vids boys!!

Scary, pictures of severed limbs comes to mind. I wonder if another layer of sheet metal around the driver's leg are in the transmission tunnel would be of help, safety wise. I recall from a few years ago, one of the guys on a track day had some horrific, leg injuries from an Alfa driveshaft. I jus...

Re: Re:

A 60-2 pickup sensor is used but as soon as you press the ring onto the pulley it either touches the cam belt or waterpump pully so both ahd to be machined. The pickup only needs a 3mm area so i was well within limits. Is the pickup ring from a 164 pulley? Good work finding this thread! I can't say...

Re: JK 24v 3liter ..at last!

Ken, What about your oil pump setup, did you use the late model chain type of 164 type? The chain drive on the 2002 engine was utilized. The pan was pulled just to change the front sump cover that mounts the crank sensor. I had Brown Miller provide two stainless tubes with 90 degree bends to route ...

Re: Alfa 2.7 v6 turbo.... crazy idea or not?

I got this very same crazy 2.7 idea! My 164 Super 2.0 V6 TB threw a rod. Throwing rods should be expected when you let a teen drive a high mileage turbo car and they opt for 6500+ rpm on a long straight highway. The damage included a horse shoe like rod, one fully destroyed piston and broken skirts ...

Re: JK 24v 3liter ..at last!

...is it still 60-2 ? Jim K. Yes, the late Busso engines which run the crank angle sensor against the flywheel have the same 60-2 tooth arrangement. I am running a 2002 engine with a 164 crank pulley and 164 front sump cover. The 164 24V front sump cover does not bolt to the pan correctly, yet, doe...

Re: Post some vids boys!!

Here we have the Lancia version of the AR 3.0 24V engine. In a FWD setup the engine sits very forward of the front wheels. So, in a mid-engine configuration the engine sits well forward of the rear wheels. Perfect!!!

Re: worn cam, clatter

I speculate that the damage could have been the result of having some coolant in the oil at some earlier point. However, I don't have experience with what the results of a bad gasket letting coolant into the oil system. Can anyone confirm what oil-coolant mix damage looks like? And/or why would any ...

Re: worn cam, clatter

I once had the exact same problem on my 2.0 V6 turbo 164. My wife even mentioned that it sounded like playing cards on bicycle spokes.

The #5 lifter was slightly concave. I replaced just the lifter, noise went away. No more related problems.

Re: 3.2 V6 - removing the oil filter heat exchanger

Ok, so how are they different? For a 164, the manual intermediate shaft is about 6mm closer to the engine. The housing has an oval bearing surface and three ovals for the bearing mount bolts. Depending on usage, the mount is machined so that the manual shaft fits near and the automatic shaft fits f...
