For two reasons: One, these ready made sets cost unreasonably high, many go higher than 1500-2000Euros!! And two, most of us love to do things ourselves AND save money in the process! This is just one of the reasons this forum exists.

Hi again Maurizio, Brake disk core temperatures reach 920*K during track days and disc surface peaks reach up to 1080*K -thats VERY hot!! The special cast iron formulations used for disc manufacture are chosen to contain disc expansion and warping to a minimum. It would really be interesting to meas...

No problem for the machine shop. Goes without saying that good centering on the lathe chuck is essential, so that there won't be any imbalance problems during use. Before you turn them down, ask the machinist to check for any previous (factory) rotor balance marks and if so,compensate accordingly. M...

MSD is a US made brand of ignitions and accessories. Some of their products are VERY good, like the MSD8 and MSD10 models. They command a serious price, but performance AND quality of this level don't come cheap. Spark energy is more than 300mJ with these models!!! :!:

No Mats, I haven't. N2C and B9ES cost about 3Euros each and thats one one advantage of a good ignition-to work with the cheapest plugs around, heheh! Now, if you tell me that with EGV's I'm looking at 10 more hp, then we got a deal! This friend of mine here, took his modified (by yours truly)1...

Go for the most powerful spark you can get and a gap definitely more than 0,7mm (.028"). Here we all are spending all kinds of money on cams and headers and the ignition stays as is? Way back in '82-83 when I designed my CD ignition, I used to test it in a long full throttle uphill straight wit...

Thats what Mats meant, but it does look flimsy! What these guys have done, is make a universal 4/5 stud disc this way. They could have done the same using the M3 315mm discs, without having the added inserts.

Barry, you're talking about a 1/2" thick cable there! Its so stiff at that size that you do not expect much to go wrong! (Welding more than soldering, heheh). For the twin fans I have (of 75 TD origin) I use one 50A relay, exactly the same as the main power relay in the 75 fusebox( the one with ...

Right-on, Zamani! These are the connectors and the required tool costs no more than $20-30. Heat-shrink tubing is a good finishing touch but not really necessary. Mats, who said MIL gas-tight stuff?? Most MIL connectors use sockets crimped with the special 'Daniels' tools with 4point adjustable ins...

Personally, I would leave it with the crimp and forget about it. I will stress using the proper crimping tools and not pliers as most people do. Crimp terminals come in different sizes noted by the colors. Red,blue, yellow in increasing order. Then and very important, there are two kinds of crimp ter...

Barry and everybody, One word on connectors and plugs in automotive applications. Wires in these joints should technically never be soldered , but crimped only. The reason is that soldered joints break after a while due to vibration. This is a practice universally followed in MIL-spec products where ...

The SZ rear vented disks are not out of production (maybe AR thinks they are!), Brembo still make and sell them, I got a pair last year for ~130Euros. Call Brembo in France, they should be able to supply your discs.

Most mild pads will work on the street. You can try Ferodo DS2000 as they're very friendly to discs. For harder use go to the DS2500 compound, which is still ok with discs but not as mild as the former.

Mats, I ran into the same problem with all AR engines I've built. There's very little you can do to remove weight from the pistons. You can remove what looks like a lot of metal and then weigh again and see only a 1gr difference! The pin is much more suitable, by making the inside tapered on both si...
