Re: Idle Irregularities

This thread has been dormant for a long time and seems unresolved. I like how it started: "just asking if anyone has had a similar problem and can share their solution" or something similar. I may ask some questions too at the start of a problem like this but really believe the answer come...

Resevoir Cap Specification

Can you tell me the pressure rating for the resevoir "radiator" cap? My current cap is stamped 0.7 which I am certain is 0.7 bar. It no longer holds pressure. A replacement that I just received from a reliable vendor is stamped 0.5 bar. I verified it to that pressure with my testing equipm...

Clutch Slave Boot

Gentlemen, I found a slight tear in the front of my clutch slave boot during routine service recently. This is the boot that seals the front of the slave to the opening the throw out fork passes through. A quick but maybe not thorough search did not turn up a replacement. Truth is the tear is less t...

Front Hub Nuts

My 85 GTV-6 has a spindle that is not drilled to accept a cotter pin lock for a castellated nut. There are several possible fixes, can you help with any of them? 1) drill the the spindle to accept a cotter pin, the simplest solution. I hear DiFatta (local here in Maryland USA) does this. Any advice ...

Late Style Proportioning Valve

My '85 GTV6 has the late style proportioning valve. When I bleed the brakes the flow from all 4 rear bleed screws is very low. I should state that I am pressure bleeding at 5 PSI and getting maybe 1/3 the flow of the fronts. Question: is the "Proportioning Valve" really that? I believe I r...

Turbo Oil Supply

I need some guidance fastening a aluminum oil supply fitting to a turbo charger with a steel casing. The application is a buddies 75 turbo. We duplicated the (damaged) oil supply fitting in aluminum (quite simple) and have a AN-4 nipple attached to it. The stock fasteners bolt right through the 1/4&...

Wiring Methodology

What is the proper method to make electrical repairs? Specifically, are crimp connectors OK to use and if so is there a preferred type? Here is why I ask. I read Carroll Smith's "Prepare to Win" in the early 80's. I have been soldering all connectors since then, using at least the correct ...

I am definitely on the "check the big grounds" band wagon. Using a turn signal might well provide an alternate ground path that allows everything to run correctly. Try a voltage drop test at the battery ground and the big cable from the radiator crossmember to the engine. If voltage drop t...

Heater Valve

There are a lot of approaches to this repair. The one that makes the most sense to me was posted by Greg Gordon a few years ago. It involves pulling the heater core and having a 90 degree x 1/2" hose fitting soldered on in place of the heater valve. This is a simple job for a decent radiator sh...

A/C electrical

I can email wiring diagrams OR you can find them on AlfaBB.com. You are dealing with a very simple set-up. I don't do auto electrics professionally and went through the A/C electrical in about 45 minutes when I did mine. PM me with an email address if you want the diagrams.

You can puchase the correct fitting from Granger as an A/C schrader valve. I purchased a pack of 6 many years ago and have tapped them into banjo bolts for temporary use on the Saabs and also on vacuum pumps so I can service auto A/C. You can also surely get them at NAPA. I used the appropriately si...

SuperVerde

Greg, I really like the routing of the intake plumbing. I've been watching your progress over the last few years and it occured to me that it would be most efficient to have the air intake on the same side as the supercharger. Maybe one of these days business will be good enough for me to buy one of...

Is it a problem that the lower attachment of the link in this set-up is in single shear?
