Re: Twin Spark Engines

After wondering a while and collecting some information: http://alfatune.fi/cms_naytasivu.php?sivu=16&language=en I changed that page so that there will be also some project blogs and car specs. To start, I made one page about the old endurance racer and started blog from ongoing Tommi's project.

Re: Twin Spark Engines

I have set the rev limiter to 6600 to avoid filling the oil during the race. Oil leven can be checked same time than filling the fuel tank and changing the driver, but if there's need to fill it, then we have to do that on team pit. Some tracks the team pits are just before or after specific fuel fi...

Re: Twin Spark Engines

That's correct. Loosing 1 liter per 6h is same as loosing 0.16 liters per hour, or 0.04 liters per 15 minutes. And that's what I keep complaining :) Edit: If revving all the time up to 7200 with an hot engine, my last setup would eat maybe 1 liter per hour. That would make 0.25 liters per 15 min, wh...

Re: Twin Spark Engines

Steel and even gapless rings has been tested already, so now it's time to try thinner rings. The bottom end with 1mm top rings has been run in already but it goes to next race season before getting real race results. In theory the difference between the oils should be really small, as the forces cau...

Re: Twin Spark Engines

Just wondering, why some say that 22 m/s piston average speed is typical for endurance racing and 25 m/s for short races? Like this one: http://hpwizard.com/mean-piston-speed.html With 88.5mm stroke 22 m/s would be equal to 7460 rpm. So in my case - 20m/s (6780rpm) -> oil consumption is OK - 21m/s ...

Re: Race Videos

The power difference is more than that, but there's also minimum weights depending on engine displacement. Our minimum weight is 960kg, as those 2.5 liters must be over 1050kg. Some of the E30's are with 2.7-liter, which weight is 1070kg. E30 12V versions have typically 200-210 hp and the E36 24V ve...

Re: Race Videos

Here's start of our last 6h race at Alastaro Circuit. The qualifying set us to 14th position of total 40 cars. In race we got one stop&go and the fuel went short 4min before the end, dropping us to 12th on overall race. As you can see, It's quite difficult to overtake those 2.5l bimmers, especia...

Re: GTV 3.0 12v motor restoration with mild modifications

That's interesting! Is there any way to get any document that the fuel injected 3.0 GTV6 did exist and about the power rating? Prochures, option lists, anything?

FIA homologation papers mention only the carb version using Dell'ortos FRPA 6x40's.

Re: GTV 3.0 12v motor restoration with mild modifications

I thought that all the 3.0 GTV's were carburated, but it seems that this one got the injection system. Is it original setup or have it been swapped later?

It seems that you have a lot of thing going on with all these cars but also moving. Good luck for the projects.

Re: Twin Spark Engines

Have anybody tried low viscosity synthetic racing oils on these old engines? How tight the bearing clearances could be? The main and rod bearing clearance specs are quite wide, meaning 0.004..0.047mm for mains and 0.027..0.062mm for rod big ends. The mains especially are allowed to be really tight. ...

Re: crankcase breather pipe - thoughts?

There's not much flow coming from the engine and that's mostly exhaust and lubricant anyway. I would look reason for power loss from some other reasons.

Re: Drive Shaft CV's keep breaking

You can buy amazing CVJ-grease at the local GM dealer. The grease on the Saab 9-3 Aero driveshafts (V6) is just about the best you can get. The expensive Shell CVJ grease is also very good. Is there part number for Saab grease and exact type for the Shell product? I still got no cooling and Redline...

Yeah, unfortunately I have to go too deep on development.. I think it's time to design new pistons, again..
