Hi x-rad. What if the seals are already put in place and rear main torqued down. Could I just squirt the sealant into the gap alongside the main?

Trick to prevent V6 rear main from leaking

Hi gang, I have an idea to prevent the rear crank main from leaking oil past the cigarette seals. See what you guys think: I'm in the middle of doing a full engine rebuild and I noticed on both sides of the rear main crank cap there is about a 1mm or so gap between the cap and the block wall. The ci...

Hi gang, Just as an update. I went ahead with the front bearing assembly removal yesterday. In case anyone ever needs to do this don't worry it was very easy. The setup is just how I thought, behind the rear bearing in the front cover are two split rings that are threaded onto the cover. Just loosen...

clutch front cover bearing removal

Hi gang, I'm in the middle of rebuilding the clutch and I figured while I'm waiting for the flywheel / pressureplate to be resurfaced I would clean the rest of it up really good. The front cover has two bearings with a spacer in the middle. Behind the inner bearing there seems to ba a spacer and two...

Hi guys, Thanks for the replies, I'll try to get a picture of it tonite to show the scoring. Barry, could you explain what you mean about "blueprinting" the pump? Do you mean modifying it to get the clearances if it's not in spec when you say this? (sorry if I'm being dense, I just want to...

Hi Barry,

Thank you for the reply. it looks like I'll be replacing the pump! The housing had the score marks you talked about (a lot of them). The rotors looked pretty good though.

thanks again!

V6 oil pump clearance

Hi gang, In the middle of rebuilding my verde and since I had the oil pump out I figured I would check the clearances. The clearance between the inner and outer rotors was fine at 0.0025". However the rotor "endfloat" (difference in hieght between the top of the rotors and lip of the ...

V6 Oil pump / distributor drive gear torque

Hi gang, I have a question regarding the oil pump drive gear. The distributor/oil pump drive pulley that the timing belt drives is connected to a shaft that has a gear on the other side. There is a nut (with a lock washer) that holds this gear on. Does anyone know what the proper torque value is for...

Thank you for the reply slyalfa, everything makes perfect sense. The reason I had some uncertainty before was the fact that the washers did not look worn at all with the crank journal. Your response explains it now though! Thanks again!

YES, THAT's IT! Thank you slyalfa. So just to re-iterate again, these grooves face the rotating crank journal side right? I just want to be 110% sure since this would be a very bad mistake!

thanks again!

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. x-rad, the grooves you are calling "radial grooves" are these the two vertical grooves on one side of the washer? The grooves are pretty wide, 4mm or so.

Hi slyalfa, Thank you for the attachment. I actually saw this diagram in the workshop manual but from the photo it's hard to tell what they are calling the lubrication groove. On one side of the washer towards the top flanges there is a type of vertical groove. The other side has a cut groove along ...

thrust washer for rear crank main

Hey gang, I have a quick question regarding the thrust washers used for the rear main journal on the V6 crank. I had a little trouble getting the rear main bearing cap out so I fiddled around with making a "puller tool". I was so excited that my puller worked I forgot about the thrust wash...

High tensile stainless fasteners for rear disks

Hi Gang, In the process of replacing rear brake disks and pads, I noticed the halfshaft spacer and rear disk M10 socket head bolts were pretty beat up and rusty. I was thinking of replacing them with a high tensile stainless set of bolts but I'm having trouble trying to locate a vendor that makes th...
