Re: short-shift g/linkage
try using the gear shifter pivot from a 75 ts. the pivot is longer than that on an alfetta/gtv6. the shifter shaft then needs to be cut and rotated 180 deg so it clears the crossmember at the front and i think the pivot width is different at the front aswell. we just did this mod on my brothers car ...

Re: lightweight starter motor
not that i can find sorry. i did take a few pics when id finished it, the best of which are already posted. i used some flat steel plate. the top bolt bolts straight through the plate and starter. the bottom bolt that bolts through the bell housing is plug welded into the plate and then the 164 star...

Re: lightweight starter motor
my starter conversion is working very well.
the thickness of the spacer needs to be about 3.5-4mm to ensure the pinion doesn't plunge too far.
i have done 3 race meetings so far and its been perfect.
cheers
Ben

Re: driveshaft conversion
so, after a very long time, everything came together and i went racing on the weekend. everything went extremely well. my new driveshaft worked a treat and was both quite and smooth. the only noise came if the engine revs dropped below about 900 rpm. apart from that it was perfect. so much smoother ...

Re: driveshaft conversion
ok, its just gathering dust so if you have use for it later... the flywheel was used on a car here for a number of years (we have standing starts here too) it was quite successful. anyway. it'd be better for someone to use it if they have the need.. i have no use for it. hairdryer... on a TS or wide...

Re: driveshaft conversion
mats, i have an alloy front flywheel for a 2L engine that was used with my driveshaft before i converted it to V6.
i have no use for it so if you think it might be useful let me know.
still waiting to get my car on the dyno to get the engine tuned. will be interesting to see how the DS goes too.

Re: Front suspension- Upside down Balljoint
Aha, MD thanks for the pics. i have looked through almost all the threads on the subject but as yet have not seen these pics. are they on somewhere. what is the ball joint from. i have been looking at honda ones but what you have used look like they fit well. my only problem is i run 15" wheels...

Front suspension- Upside down Balljoint
i have done lots of reading on the subject but would love to see anyones pics of this mod. most people talk about drop spindles but it seems to me the best way would be to put the A-arm below the upright. hence my wondering if anyone out there has photos of a successful conversion. any input would b...

Re: driveshaft conversion
this has been a great topic and i have found all the input very interesting. quite some time ago i posted some pics of a driveshaft i acquired that used a cv at the front and uj's in the middle and rear. after having it stashed in my garage for the last 5 years i have finally got round to working ou...

head torque on 24v engine
Hi, i was wondering if anyone knows what torque a head should be done up on a 24 valve V6.
my manual states torqueing to 30 ft lb and then using special etc.
does that equate to an actual rateable torque?
cheers

Re: lightweight starter motor

Re: lightweight starter motor
you mean up by the engine mount?
iv never run one,
is it a problem with these?
i can easily make some form of support.
it would probably make sense as this set up could possibly be prone to extra stress.

Re: lightweight starter motor
thanks MD for that. had a look and decided id make an adapter for a 164 starter motor. the 164 starter is 3mm longer than the gtv starter, so i made a 3mm packer plate/adapter that picked up all of the mounting points. DSC00019#1.jpg it sits very close to the block but think it will be ok DSC00034.j...

lightweight starter motor
does anyone out there know of an easy fit starter motor to fit a gtv6? i need something that has less diameter than the standard one, like that of a 164. i am running into clearance issues with the exhaust. i was hoping someone out there may have done some homework and would be able to offer a solut...

Re: GTV race car.
went and talked to the guy who did the balancing on my engine today. his opinion was that my flywheel was more than strong enough. he went on to say that he has seen much lighter flywheels on bigger gruntier motors which he knows have not had any issues. he seemed to think that running my flywheel w...
