Re: Hello from relocation to UK with my two South African GTV6's

Kevin, Regarding your float valves, you would be better off reaming them as opposed to drilling. If you were to use a hand drill or a drill press you would almost certainly go wrong. The way to do it would be in a lathe. Another thing is that standard drills aren't "just right" for brass, ...

Re: Hello from relocation to UK with my two South African GT

Murray, The ethanol attacks the seals and gaskets, leaves varnish behind, attracts water, corrodes aluminum if it sits (float bowls of carbs), etc. It makes carb engines run leaner and makes injection engines use more fuel. In general its not so bad if the vehicle is used on a regular basis but it i...

Re: HELP WITH EXHAUST SYSTEM

For used parts I have had good help from Larry at APE. He is in Lodi, Ca. 209-365-1383. He's a one man shop, so give him a bit to call you back. Leave a message and he'll call you.

I hope that helps,

Re: Cambelt types for 12v engines

Mister K, You, Sir, make me laugh! Maybe more so than that upside down bloke..... 75evo, Thanks for the list! I was mistakenly under the impression that some of these parts ended production with the 164 in about 1994. I was thinking that based on the model....not when Alfa quit sending cars over her...

Re: Cambelt types for 12v engines

Jim,
I get that you have to have all the toothed cogs matching. What I didn't know was if all the cogs were available or if I was going to have to make one or more (I am a machinist after all).

Thanks for the caution. I built this engine once and I don't want to have to do it again.

Cambelt types for 12v engines

Has anyone tried to put the round tooth cambelt cogs and belt into the earlier engine that came with the square tooth cambelt parts?

I don't have any of the round tooth parts around to compare and I'm sure it would take some looking to find the right length of belt.

Thanks,

Re: wont start

I recently had a problem that sounded like yours, where the car didn;t want to start and had a miss. I had to have it running well for our state smog test and the way it was running it was not going to pass. I put the timing light on all of the cylinders in sequence and each was fine but the last on...

As long as there isn't anything that can come out of the pits, its good to use. It isn't as efficient as it could be, but you won't be able to measure that difference.

I hope that helps,

Re: Need s some advise on converting my Alfetta gtv 4 to a V

It may be that you already have a plan for this, but you will want to get the computer box into the passenger compartment somewhere. I have no idea where it goes on a right hand drive car. On the US market cars it goes on the right side panel just in front of the door. That looks really nice!!! I ho...

Re: driveshaft conversion

Cf definitely damps out vibration....at least with a softball bat!
We had been using aluminum bats and then someone brought out a Carbon Fiber one. That had the deadest thunk when you hit the ball with it and it didn't send the ball as far. That was almost 30 years ago though.

Re: A Pillar Trim - Help!

That trim is held on by two self-drill/tap screws that poke holes in the plastic tube that's inside the A pillar. That tube in each A pillar is the drain for the sunroof.

I hope that helps,

Re: Clutch issues 1986 GTV6

The slave seal could be bad. Easy way to tell is to pull the boot off of it. Does the pedal return to the normal position with your foot off while the system is bled? If you get it bled and the pedal just goes to floor then its the pivot ball. If you can move the clutch fork away from the slave, in ...

Re: Clutch issues 1986 GTV6

It could also be a broken clutch fork pivot ball. this is a ball with a threaded shank that screws into the trans case and gives the clutch fork something to pivot on. If not greased every once in a while they break. If it does break the slave piston will come out of its bore and dump fluid everywhe...

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)

Mats, its roughly $60 for oil and filter using Mobil1 synthetic. I do the labor. Water pumps, radiators (the plastic tank/ aluminum core ones), and fan clutches are limited to around 60,000 miles. I don't know if its the water pump going out and taking the fan and radiator with it or the fan clutch ...
