Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Did some test driving today on private back roads in Surrey Hills as still need to do MOT hence SA plates still on. Took a few as there was a good sunset. I need to find some decent 63mm wheel centre caps .

These do take time especially when you also doing engine conversion. 130 red is great colour ( my opinion ) !

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Thanks Alfaaa1, it's nearly there. Just waiting for weekend to do some test drives and then do nut and bolt check. I got some new doors seals to put on but I need a wider space to open the car doors properly. Post some pics of you GTV with those Simmons wheels. Like to see an update. Keeps me motiva...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Now that I have enough gold I have refitted the stainless steel exhaust system that the previous owner had fitted a couple of years ago. Basically two boxes on 63mm pipe and all boxes are free flow . ( no compartments ) . No drone on this. Interesting the way it's routed around caliper for more clea...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

I'm not sure where this gold colour entered my head . Maybe it was from living in Johannesburg for most of my life surrounded by industry dedicated to gold mining. Just hope Jim and MD don't get any golden ideas. I have just finished replacing all the bolts on my FX compomotives and was about to put...

Damn this has kept me chuckling well into my third coffee break !
Good to see Jim has dragged himself off the beach and possibly could surprise us with some more info soon on the 24v space project.

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

I think Jims on vacation again .... Maybe on some beach in Brisbane :) Moving along. Weather has been poor so only small items done but they all add up to a better functioning or should I say correctly functioning GTV. Going through my snag list and servicing list I got these few item sorted out tod...

Re: Larger oil cooler

Main issues with high oil temps on a good quality oil is the effects on rubber seals. ( from what I have been told) . Out of interest how long does it take to get to that temp ? What type of radiator you using ? ( for water) . What's the size of your pipe work? And the ID of your fittings. Jims book...

Re: 280 bhp Alfa 2.5 V6 Group 1 Engine Dyno

This is one of Richard Melvins engines which has recently gone into the Apilatte GTV. That engine made 267hp with that set up. This weekend they have another car which Chris Snowdon , George and Richard have taken to Spa this weekend. I told george to send some pics of this awesome original touring ...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

So while I was stuck under the dash ( again) after work today I fitted new heater hose to my new heater valve set up. I coincided this with fitting a new oils pressure sender unit. I could not get the spanner under the old sender unit and rotate it with the heater hoses in the way. So timing was per...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Z, I think if I put the mattres in the car I would just go to sleep. I do remove the steering wheel when doing the clutch master to make life easier. This is assuming I know this steering wheel comes off easily.
When my 164 clutch master went I decided right then I was not going to that job :D

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

MD, now you tell me about these good ideas ! Could have saved all the physio money for new headlights. But while I was busting my back under the dash I took the opportunity to fit four new 5 pin relays each side for the electric windows. 5 pin relays allow the one pin to be in a earth position (87a)...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

If I cut heater hose really short so the adaptor and heater valve butt up against each other it becomes firm enough to allow the cable to operate the valve without moving the unit. Now I need drain the water from engine to connect pipes up so it does not run all over the carpets.

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Basically finished off " most " mechanical items. Just waiting for a spare set of wheels to come back from restoration before cars goes back onto the floor. In the meantime working on aircon valve replacement and new control unit. Their are no replacements for this part so plan is to separate the pa...
