Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Jumping a bit to bodywork and trim while I wait for parts. I started on bumper brackets which have just been powder coated. But before these go on I have vacuumed out the loose dirt in the chassis rails then spayed some dinitrol anti corosion spray. I have this spray pretty strong but ideally would ...

It’s quite easy to bend with a sleeve pipe over it . There is a plumbers bending tool that you can use to bend it while it’s still in the car.

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

While the gear lever was out i bent it towards the driver by 20mm so it does not feel like you getting out your seat to put it into first gear.

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

I had a new gear lever boot but the original is in perfect condition so it will be used. Where the lever attaches to gearbox I have found serrated flange nuts never let me down as have had these come loose before. In my box spares from many years ago I still have an original gear knob.

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Soon it's time to start fitting parts and get the car on its wheels but still loads of small items to do. One small item which is really important is the gear change starting with the gear lever. Some people do a quick shift I'm thinking to rebush the linkage as per new and then see how necessary it...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Finally got my brake disc parcel from my store where it as posted to ! Had few hours today to assemble before its back to work tomorrow. The long summer evenings allow about three hours every day to get some progress. I will coat the bells of disc with paint as I hate seen these rust here in the UK....

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Hi Sportiva . All GTV 6's and the last GTV 2.0 that were made in South Africa came with 5 bolt hubs. The previous owner did not like the wheels that were on this GTV6 and due to limited options on a 5x98 pcd he changed the hubs. I have how put the original 5 bolt hubs on and sold those wheels. I mus...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

I got new brake lines. They are steel reinforced and look original so have not opted to go the Goodrige brake line route. The box of plating parts helps bling up the area even though most would want the calipers painted. To get things together I just loosely fitted calipers to hubs until I get the d...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Brake discs still not here so thought will continue with the calipers. I'm reluctant to paint them as I find it always comes and I don't have correct facilities to do this. The cleaning pot becomes helpful again :) Out of interest the red paint on the calliper is a factory inspection marking. You fi...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Things are progressing well and it's nearly time to start assembly. Still got front brakes and wheel bearings to compete in the suspension area. Hoping my brakes discs arrive soon. Got cracking with the wheel bearings first thing. Takes me about five minutes to press in enough grease into each beari...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

Thought I would get the fuel line cleaned up and assembled into the car at same time to get that out the way. The steel fuel line had zero corrosion and a light wipe brake cleaner took the underseal off. I had a spare nearly new pump which I fitted to a new filter. As I was fitting this up I noticed...

Re: SA GTV6 2.5 restoration and few minor mods !

I painted about a centre meter down the thread on the track rod as that never gets used. Applied loads copper grease here and making sure the serrated washer goes back. I checked the steering bush as had this fail on at least three of my old GTV6s and seen two here in the UK ! The rubber bush slowly...
