Re: Some more brake upgrades for the 116-Barry

I installed this exhaust heat shield where the exhaust pipe passes close to the rear caliper: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/THE-11620/ Now that caliper is no more likely to overheat than the one on the non-exhaust-pipe side. (And using Motul 600 RBF I no longer have any problems that bleeding at...

Re: Ooops, I dropped a valve

The 2.5L engine had many hours of track time after the valves were adjusted. If anything I would think the valves would be out of adjustment. The 3L is in already and it is wonderful. :D The 2.5L does sound better but the 3L is more fun. It is very unlikely I'll go back. It does surprise me how much...

Re: Ooops, I dropped a valve

Definitely not preignition since I heard nothing and was running high octane gas at the time. I usually use Shell V-Power mostly for the detergents. Its octane rating here in the US is 93 which is the average of the research octane number and the motor octane number. Could I have been using too HIGH...

Re: V6 fight

Yes Patrick Long should have known better. You can see from the video that all the cars bounce through there meaning you cannot take a tight line at all. RE: Bathhurst. A track I'd love to drive someday. It's hill climb nature reminds me of Circuit du Mas du Clos in France, another track I'd like to...

Ooops, I dropped a valve

My '84 2.5L stock engine with 82,000 miles on it dropped the #2 cylinder exhaust valve. I was at a track day. The engine was fully warmed up (I had been on track about 20 minutes). The valve dropped while at about 1/2 throttle exiting a turn at about 5000 rpm. So we all know that these are sodium co...

Re: V6 fight

Not Alfa related but topical to this thread: a clip from the 2011 Sebring race. Sebring is known as a bumpy track. Look how the Porsche 911 totally loses front grip in the bumps, collides with the Corvette which ultimately takes the Ferrari out of the race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3AzRjL1Db0...

Re: Does it seem like this site is dying to anyone else?

It would be nice to hear from SZ/RZ owners as well since these were the ultimate production versions of the transaxle Alfas. I know these cars are rare (it is said that only 1 is in North America) and that the owners do not modify them in order to hold their collector value. Still, it would be nice ...

Re: Does it seem like this site is dying to anyone else?

This forum has a bit of a private club feel to it with a dozen or so posters setting the tone. When those posters have nothing to say it gets pretty quiet around here. Since the top posters are into heavy mods of their cars it can feel awkward to post a newby question. That's why a comprehensive tec...

Re: Does it seem like this site is dying to anyone else?

I think the board owner has lost interest in maintaining it, especially the 'fixed' contents not the BB contents. Absolutely no offense to Michael intended, he's done more for transaxle Alfas than I ever have and his 24v 3L car is awesome! Perhaps he would allow someone else either 1) assist him in ...

Re: 85 GTV6 California

One way to find a suitable buyer is to place a classified ad in your local Alfa Romeo Owners' Club newsletter: http://www.aroc-usa.org/chapters.php Or, if it runs and is registered, another way is to take it to a local informal Saturday or Sunday morning cars & coffee show that are found around ...

Re: 85 GTV6 California

It's hard to price a car without looking at it, and even then, pictures don't tell the whole story, the car may run but in need of a rebuild, a paint job can get expensive, I don't know in the U.S. but it can go for about 3000 dollars here for paint, add about 1500 dollars for rebuilding the interi...

Re: 85 GTV6 California

OK, I'll take a crack at this. My observations come from owning and upgrading one for 10 years and from Always Looking For Another. Value in the US circa 2011: $500-$1000 parts car with terminal rust $1500-$2500 if in poor mechanical condition (bad synchros, poor compression, leaking head gaskets, f...

Re: 1982 GTV6 Restored/Modified

We also have all the old parts from the GTV6 that we saved, IE: 12V engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, wiring harness, computer, AFM, etc, that could be used to convert back to stock. This made me laugh. Who is their right mind would ever do that?! :D BTW, beautiful car. Good luck with the sa...
