Good point.
I guess there must be a datum point from which to measure.
Re, reindexing the cams. Machinist at work says he can index (slot) the holes on the key plate slightly and then redrill and fit the locating pin in a new location.

Re: Porting and shaving 2.5L 12V heads
Thanks guys. yep the drop of the oz dollars has sure made importing things rather expensive...again. I should have bought more stuff when it was near parity.
Silly question No.3
So if I shave the head how do I reindex the cams?

Re: Porting and shaving 2.5L 12V heads
Hmm... so all things being equal, if the engine is relatively stock, eg stock cams valves etc, it's best to just clean a few of the bats out of the caves. The factory finish is a bit rough 'n' ready. But what about boosting the CR a bit? Say to 9.5 or 10 to 1. After careful inspection I've decided t...

Re: Removing liners
Yep, that's what you get when someone uses straight Sydney tap water for coolant. And I can assure you its hard shit to get off. I had to file it off the liners. Don't know how I'm going to shift it off the block. I may have to get it chemically cleaned. The water connections were rusted out too. Th...

Is this liner NFG
Sorry for the blurry pic but notice the marks on the sealing face. You can feel them with your nail so I guess they're a couple of thou deep. http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr309/1928hotrod/liner1.jpg Is it a throw away job or can I fix it? It would be a pity to just junk it as the liners are in...

Removing liners
I saw this on the alfabb and with memories of hammering out the liners in my old 2L I thought I'd give it a try. http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr309/1928hotrod/linertool1.jpg I made this up out some old pipe flanges and a piece of 1/2 threaded rod. The smaller flange was step turned 90mm to 87....

Re: Porting and shaving 2.5L 12V heads
Cheers mate.
I've ported a 2L head and that was PITA and of dubious results.
Just the megasquirt alone made the single biggest and most noticable change in performance. The rest was just marginal.
I like your tyre black idea though, I'll give that a go instead.

Re: Porting and shaving 2.5L 12V heads
Is it really worth porting if the cams, valves etc are stock? Maybe just a tidy up of the rough factory effort. It does look like a bit of a bat cave in there. At only 2000lb and 4.1 final drive I don't really need to make a lot of horses. In theory it should perform better than a GTV6 with stock 3....

Porting and shaving 2.5L 12V heads
Hi, I want to clean up the ports on my 2.5L heads and was wondering how far you could go before catastrophe. I don't want to open the ports all that much but I do want to remove some of the lumps and bumps especially on the outlet ports in the area around the valve guides. There seems to be quite a ...

Re: Shortening the harmonic balancer
Thanks for that mate, unfortunately the counter weight extends all the way out to the front of the balancer.
I reckon i can get a little extra room by shifting the engine back about 20mm.
If not then I like your idea of cutting it back and then adding back the weight removed.

Shortening the harmonic balancer
Hi all, I need to shorten up my harmonic balancer (3 pulley) due to space limitations. The car, a homebuilt, currently has a 4 cylinder and when I swap the V6 I reckon the balancer will be hard up against the steering rack. I notice that it has built in counter weights, so what's the impact of say l...

Thanks guys, I was beginning to think there were no megasquirters on here anymore. I have an MSII, two in fact, and have been running my 2L with them for years. I keep one as spare and swap them every now and then. The reason I asked was because I have little room for a flyback circuit due to the de...

Hi mate, I do a bit of hillclimbing too but not as serious as your setup. I usually finish in the back third of the pack but really winning is not really what its about is it. So they say  I hope to do a bit better after I install the V6. Our track, Huntley, is closed at the moment due to a fa...
