Re: Cast iron front calipers?

Has anyone seen a different make of front caliper than Brembo as standard on this type of GTV6?

Re: Cast iron front calipers?

Thanks Kanga! when I asked all the companies in Europe and US that I could think of to quote me on the same stuff, Centerline gave the best overall quote including postage, even when I figured in VAT and customs duties. I have one more stupid question, do all Euro GTV6s have the same alloy Brembo fr...

Re: Cast iron front calipers?

I guess I want calipers that are already rebuilt to make the process quicker and simpler. I have got a pretty good quote from Centerline in the US. I just want to make sure I order the right stuff the first time because the shipping is high from the US so I just want to order once! At least I have r...

Re: Cast iron front calipers?

But the rear brakes are the same as the GTV 2.0? At least thats what all the websites selling Red Dot and Tarox stuff say as the prices for GTV6 are the same as the GTV 2.0 while the 75 rear brake pads are a different price. E.g. Tarox strada 27.70 pst for GTV6 and GTV 2.0 while 36.70 pst for 75 2.5...

Re: Cast iron front calipers?

Will these fit the GTV6? The guy at Demon Tweeks says it isn't in the listings but AFAIK the brakes are the same...

Re: Cast iron front calipers?

I have got the fluid changed a few times but haven't changed any of the seals. I think the problem with the rear calipers is hand brake related as it doesn't always release immediately, this has been an intermittent problem for a few years, the first thing I changed was the hand brake cable which di...

Re: Cast iron front calipers?

Thanks again guys, I was just panicking over the huge amounts of cash I am about to spend... The master cylinder has fluid but pedal is oh so soft so I think my 1999 master cylinder has finally gone. The brake hoses are aeroquip and not too old so are probably ok. I think I understand what is going ...

Re: Cast iron front calipers?

Did the Euro models have alloy to start with, if so this is what I have now. Is it better to get them rebuilt? Are the rear calipers always alloy or is there something going on there too? I've been getting much better prices for all the brake stuff in the USA, is this because the brake stuff over th...

Re: Cast iron front calipers?

This may sound like a stupid question but are the pads the same on the GTV6 as on the 75 2.0,2.5 and 3.0?

Thanks!

Cast iron front calipers?

Hello! I am just looking around for some brake parts for my GTV6. I had some problems with the rear calipers sticking over the long Summer trip and now the pedal goes straight to the bottom of its travel. Having gone through my receipts, the last time I spent money on the hydraulics was in 1999 so i...

Re: What Clarkson said about the gtv6...arrrgh.

My best friend had an Alfasud in the early 90s, he did everything on it himself and it was very reliable until the rust took over. Every major problem I have had on my GTV6 could be traced back to a mistake by a mechanic including not putting loctite on the driveshaft splines :( My dad drove the Fie...

Re: What Clarkson said about the gtv6...arrrgh.

When I say specialist attention I mean a mechanic who knows what he or she is doing! Some of the things they did to it in Spain before I found a decent mechanic were just laughable. People said to me "don't go to Lozano, they are expensive! (€36 an hour!)" this advice probably cost me thou...

Re: What Clarkson said about the gtv6...arrrgh.

Let me get this straight, British people actually think of eighties Ford cars as reliable? We are talking about the Escort, the Sierra, Scorpio/Granada, Orion and all other pieces of $hit I might have missed? Oh, the Fiesta! I don't think anyone in Sweden or any northern country would think o...

Re: Road Trip

Hi MR2! Most days we tried to drive only 3-4 hours because of the little ones although the last day took a bit longer, mainly because the rear brakes stuck on so hard at the last petrol stop before home! Day 1: Viana to Viveiro was about 4.5 hours driving, mainly autopista (freeway?) but the last bi...
