Re: Hello from relocation to UK with my two South African GTV6's

Once the hard underseal was off it was pretty easy to wipe the residue waxy underseal away to reveal the cars original factory primer .
Before respraying I gave it a few coats of stonechip to build up some barrier strength before final coats .

Re: Hello from relocation to UK with my two South African GTV6's

Now that suspension is complete the painful process of scraping of the old hard underseal . It's still a pleasure to work on a rust free car that has spent it life in a dry climate . Plan is to install wheel arch liners once I'm finished to stop water getting into the recesses in the top of the arch...

Re: Hello from relocation to UK with my two South African GTV6's

Along with my order of bushes I got a wheel bearing kit . Wish I could locate the dust seal separately as this one for our wheel bearings has a lip on it which most suppliers don't have unless you buy it in the complete kit . The part number is TC 42 56 7/9 made by NAK . The last digit is where the ...

Re: Hello from relocation to UK with my two South African GTV6's

Bought my new bushes from Highwood Alfa . Having the Alfa tool makes life really easy to remove the LCA bushes as long as you only pull one at a time otherwise you can strip the threads !
Can always use a press to put them back in if you font have the tool .

Re: Hello from relocation to UK with my two South African GTV6's

Things started getting carried away as I thought it would look nice to repaint these so I gave them a sandblasting and priming !

Re: Hello from relocation to UK with my two South African GTV6's

So my plan is to strip off the front suspension and replace all bushes , then scrape off the loose underseal which has gone hard and prepare again .
Pics firstly of stripping down the Lower A arms and removing the bushes .

Re: Hello from relocation to UK with my two South African GTV6's

I am finally going to the Spettacolo in August . A friend of who has a mint condition 75 (with full EVO kit ) convinced me we should drive both our classics up there to Zandvoort this year . This has given me an excuse to do a major front end suspension rebuild as the last time I did this was over t...

Re: Project 2 : front mount SA GTV 3.0 - Sei diff

I had to close in my doors for MOT purposes as the don't like open doors even though all the webbing and bracing had been cut out . There was no possibility to get your arm stuck but anyway i just got a neat light solution using 1mm plastic , carbon wrap , some Audi plastic clips , door pull straps ...

Re: Project 2 : front mount SA GTV 3.0 - Sei diff

To reply to wondering everyone use Sei diff .. Was it is very simple bolt in conversion with your brake set up all in position ... Also there were loads of Sei spares in South Africa . Bmw spares then we're very very expensive especially when sourcing an M car for the LS while the Sei comes with one .

Re: GTA crank and 164 12V crank pulley

Z it's seems you making life hard for youself :D With the amount of electrical failures ( whether it's been a rare alternator issue or a rare fault in a kill switch ) I have had in a GTV in the years I don't think I would trust an electric pump for water especially when the mechanical one has never ...

Re: Problem with 164 24v running on 3 cylinders

You may have jumped one tooth on left bank . Check your timing marks on back of cams . You don't need cam block tools but they are helpful . Just use a piece of paper under a cam cap to hold it in position .( then obviously remove it after ) Im far from a mechanic but managed to set my timing no pro...
