Re: LCA bolt failure?

A lot of talk/solutions.
But no feel for the real forces generated with your brake upgrade....

Re: LCA bolt failure?

Jim, First for the threads, here in Holland most guys use threaded rods, you buy them per meter. You can get them in 12.9 quality. Nuts on both sides. Not cheap but you can do two cars with a meter if you cut carefully. If you want to go cheap you could do only the front ones  The strength diff...

Re: LCA bolt failure?

I believe there is a tube in the rail. If not if you keep on tightening the LCA bolt, it will crush the rail. Yes there is an aluminium tube in the rail, but this is not enough to let the two vertical walls work together for optimal stiffness. It's strange alfa didn't recognise/improve this, at the...

Re: LCA bolt failure?

So Jim, the main question then is are you willing to open up the chassis member. Material is not the money here, time is... As 75evo (I forgot Nizam?) is suggesting is not a bad Idea. The picture in question: http://i54.tinypic.com/14pc01.jpg This is how a dutch firm, race team does it. The picture ...

Re: LCA bolt failure?

Buy a Hartge 1series  the attempt to evolute the ar75 Nah the crappy (image) alfa´s are more fun

Not optimal, but already better.
Quick drawn ... preferably on both sides of the strip (around the bolt).

Re: LCA bolt failure?

A thicker strip is not the way to go, its just adding a lot of weight and a minimal amount of stiffness. But as it is a turbo, you can compensate by adding 0.1 [bar(g)] boost extra  The stiffener is the most effective when, the load is a pure pull force through the material. A hint, you need a ...

Re: LCA bolt failure?

So I did understand the stiffener story. For the bolt forces, it doesn't matter if the stiffener is there. I will explain, just run through the parts and try to draw the force lines. Original construction: The brake forces goes via the LCA through to bolt&nut into the chassis member. With stiffe...

Re: LCA bolt failure?

I'm not getting the stiffener construction...hence higher forces.
It would help to see some picture to understand it.

Re: LCA bolt failure?

to enhance rigidity (and complicate matters) I have a flat bar 6mm thick connecting the (front) left/right LCA bolts -a few mm right under the oil pan. I understand as the chassis tries to flex during cornering/braking those bolts are subjected to additional tension than the one designed for. Scien...

Re: LCA bolt failure?

Stripping threads is strange... Normally a nut - bolt combo is designed to snap the bolt. So first I would guess, the nut is not just 8.8 quality. And I always was under the impression the alfa bolts for this one are 10.9's I know several guys running slicks, never had problems and they are using 10...

Re: Project 2 : front mount SA GTV 3.0 - Sei diff

All the M7 threads I pass, I replace with M6 by adding thread inserts. I gave up on finding M7 bolts in the correct size :D To get an idea.. http://eshop-simaf.com/34-84-large/insert-a-visser-laiton-m6-x-10-tarinsert-quantite-sachet-20.jpg At work we use for all connections in alloy which are opened...

No harm intended, just a natural urge to push myself and others to the max 8)
So when I hear a complaint, I try to provide an out of the box possible solution direction.
Just using common sense and not hindered by any constants
