Re: JK 24v 3liter ..at last!

Hi Jim you seem so far away now :D Bye the way how are the steaks in Greece ? Now that you've mastered the mechanical side of Alfa engines you would probably love to whip one into shape with a self programable Ecu.I abandoned L-jet about 5 years ago and went with a Megasquirt. The fact that you build...

Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance

No schnitzel now, I'm having huge steaks in Toronto! Ok Jim you're here now why not stay and avoid all that nastiness back home :D Canada could certainly use a local Alfa Guru to improve the breed. You're welcome to come and tweek my GTV6 Rosa anytime you want (hope she's not listening) By the way M...

Re: Rear brakes locking

MZ107 Typically boosters "go bad" in one of two ways.Either they cannot hold vacuum or the seal at the rear of the master fails and brake fluid leaks into the booster. My experience has been that the most common problem is a sticking check valve that prevents vacuum from building and makes ...

Re: Rear brakes locking

MZ107 First thing I would consider is replacement of the two flexible hoses which connect to the calipers.Over time these hoses can degrade internaly and act like a one-way valve- letting hydraulic pressure get to the caliper but preventing it from returning. They're relatively cheap and should be re...

I experienced the ultimate today

Guys I just had to tell you about my experience today.I own a Napa garage and sometimes people with Alfas come and see me to have their cars serviced.Today I had an appointment to inspect an 85 GTV6.The customer wanted me to inspect his car and advise him as to what was required to keep it in top sh...

Re: 24v Ignition advance map

Michael, I'll start with the usual disclaimers  This table may not be suitable for others to use or even consider, so procede with caution.I've been running this advance table on my 86 GTV6 2.5 for 3 years.Engine is approx 10:1 due to shaved heads.I run S cams and standard Bosch distributor mo...

Re: Engine destroying itself - detectives wanted !

Scott yes I found the culprit. It was the big-end rod bearing on cyl no.3 which spun itself.I have myself to blame because it seems I didn't do a very good job of measuring my crank journals when I rebuilt and should have gone with oversize bearings  Fortunately I had a spare 2.5 to put in to s...

Re: RADIATOR FAN FUNCTIONS

but the car is European (Paris) and it has a shelf under the glovebox. Jim please ignore what I said previously and my diagram.I figured yours was a North American market Alfa and based on your description you definately don't have the "Tropicaire" system. For the european model you need ...

Re: RADIATOR FAN FUNCTIONS

James if your car has the "tropicaire" system (extra blower/evaporator under the glovebox in lieu of a parcel shelf) then the correct logic is that if the coolant temperature sensor in the radiator turns on then both fans should function. They should also both function if the coolant sensor...

Re: 1984 GTV6 Ign. Switch Lock Cylinder Removal & Replacement

Chuck the switch is held to the column with a breakaway security bolt. The head of the bolt breaks off on installation and all that remains is the shaft. What you need to do is get a mirror and a small cutting wheel.Postion the mirror against the dash looking back towards the switch. You will see the s...

Re: Ignition Advance

Bill keep in mind that you're working with a 3.0L not a 2.5 so I don't know how that will affect the results.I believe the CR is the same ? If it was my engine I'd start at 30 deg.max. and gradually increase until the result is satisfactory. In theory you're supposed to increase until you detect &quo...
