pull the plugs out and fill a cilinder with thin rope.. You will compress the rope against the head and stop the crank from turning further. Remember that you need to make sure the valves are closed in that cilinder!

Also the injectors could be clogged up with the same gunk you found in the tank and pump. Getting them out and getting them cleaned ultrasonically will help.
