Tach circuit

Thought this might be useful for others as this ought to work for ECU's other that MS too. The scenario is that the stock GTV6 tach doesn't work on a signal direct from some aftermarket ECU's. This is because the PLAIN WHITE wire from the stock revcounter / tach is connected to the negative coil pos...

Hi Sape, did you get to the bottom of this?

Re: 3.0 24V "dies" after 6000rpm

Sape, that's very odd, especially as it once made good power on the dyno. Note the use of the word "once", did the car sit with unused fuel in the tank for a for a while before the dyno? (months, years). I ask as the symptom sounds like fuel starvation at high load, being not noticeable in...

Re: 3.0 24V "dies" after 6000rpm

Hi Sape, Glad it was that simple ! Does it now rev out fully and with decent power to 6.8k? I've also set rpm limits quite cautiously for the 24v, similar to yourself. Soft set at 6900 pulling 13 degrees timing out, hard at 7000. This is just to get a slightly less abrupt "stop" as the mot...

Re: 3.0 24V "dies" after 6000rpm

as GTV-racer says, please post an MS data log. & fuel / spark tables I run a 24v on MS1 and had some similar teething troubles when I converted over from distributor to 60-2 trigger wheel & 6 COPS. An observation whilst MS is great functionality bang for buck, it is sensitive to input condit...

Re: Merc Kompressor Supercharger?

Those Merc's use an Eaton M45. I put one on a VW Golf gti 1.6 a couple of years ago and it became very lively indeed ! Those blowers top out at about 190 to 200hp at 16,000 blower rpm - fyi they use a very similar item on the BMW mini's up until a few years ago. But I'd say it was too small for a 2....

Re: Hello from relocation to UK

I will be there at Goodwood too, but I'm not sure if I can pass the circuit noise test though. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

If not I'll just enjoy spectating and try and blag a couple of passenger laps if possible!

Re: Hello from relocation to UK

I managed to pick up a copy of this Auto Italia, a good write up and fine pictures too ! Great bit of extra history for a very very nice car :D It was surprisingly difficult to get a copy as all the local usual suspects where I live don't seem to stock A.I. , but luckily I happened to pass through H...

Re: Steve's 3.0 24v supercharged GTV

Figuring it would need more stopping power for the more powerful motor, I followed much the same upgrade route well documented elsewhere on this site. I did the rears a few years ago using SZ vented rear disks with steel spacers inserted into the standard GTV6 calipers, you can spot the disks in the...

Re: Steve's 3.0 24v supercharged GTV

Cheers Kevin, I had the exhaust shop make the flattened part, I think they just carefully squashed some 3.5" pipe for the that section! I'll PM about the engineering shops I've used locally.

Re: Jim K. 3.2 engine

Great write up Jim. I'm curious as to how different the torque curves will look or feel when comparing those two plenums and the long vs short runner. designs. Assuming the deeper breathing 3.2 would have a flatter curve anyway compared to the 3.0, even without mods, would you expect the plenums to ...

Re: Steve's 3.0 24v supercharged GTV

Wanting the least restrictive and lowest back pressure exhaust down stream of the motor, a custom exhaust was made as I didn't think anything off the self was completely free flowing for 300ish hp. Twin 2.25" downpipes and straight through front boxes, merging to single 3" with a flatter s...

Re: Steve's 3.0 24v supercharged GTV

ECU I converted to Megasquirt to control the fuel injection about 12+ years ago, documented elsewhere on this site. A year or two after that I further converted the MS to also control spark timing rather than just fueling. Interestingly by way of reliability - in the intervening decade I haven't tou...

Re: Steve's 3.0 24v supercharged GTV

The throttle valve, inlet plenum, runners and chargecooler set up (most would say inter-cooling, but that's an incorrect term and well described in GG's book). A description first, then some photo's: There was a choice to be made between the GTV6 style plenum versus the fwd style version, either wou...
