Re: Exhaust valves
You could convert to 8mm or 5/16" stems and then getting guides to suit. 9mm Is a strange size that's for sure. There might be a little machine work involved if you can't find some with the groove in the right place though.

Yes I wouldn't mind seeing some more pictures, but perhaps in a separate thread?

Re: 2.5 future mods - engine direction?
Jules have you seen the Spruell 2.9 piston set? Uses 3.0 liners with a 2mm overbore and ends up with a 10.5:1CR with standard heads. I guess you could mill the heads for more.

Re: 116 GTV BRERA Race car !!!
Our Commodores are 3.6, which I think is the biggest capacity for the alloytec. It would make good sense if the blocks are identical, except for bore size.

Re: 116 GTV BRERA Race car !!!
Don't worry storm, this is a different engine. The 3.8 you're talking about is the old Buick 90deg 2v pushrod engine, this is the new 'Alloytec' 60deg, 4 valve with chain driven cams.

Re: Alfa v6 tappets
A couple of years ago I had mine re-faced at the local camshaft grinder. Before I did it I talked to the local Alfa tuner and he said he had taken a lot off a set to lighten them (from memory I think over 1mm) and then had them hardness tested and they were just as hard as at the surface.

Re: Ooops, I dropped a valve
You shouldn't need 98 octane fuel for a standard engine with 9:1 CR. I doubt 98 would have been readily available in the mid eighties anyhow.

Re: The Orange Cab -MD's New Racer
Hi MD. Did you re-drill the standard hubs? I'd like to do this for a friends race car. What did you do with the rear hubs? I was thinking ream the existing holes, press in inserts then re-drill on the 114.3 PCD. Front hubs are more straight forward.

Re: Ooops, I dropped a valve
If the valve clearances were set too tight the hot exhaust valve won't get enough 'seat time' to transfer heat into the head. Lean mixture and detonation wouldn't help either.

Re: Spindle flex under cornering....beware!
Hi MD. This fits standard 75 upright/spindle, this is a spacer that gets clamped between the inner races when the nut on the end of the spindle is tightened.
The first car they will be fitted to has lengthened uprights with bent steering arms for bump correction.

Re: Spindle flex under cornering....beware!
They're threaded with a 1mm pitch to set the wheel bearing play. I guess this bush is placed between the two inner bearing rings... But how do you set the wheel bearing play. Dismantle the hub several times? Basically. You could install it too long, then measure the play with a dial gauge and short...

Thread revival! Did you figure something out Jim? At our last club sprint meeting a friend of mine with a 75TS turbo racer was having trouble with the inside of the wheel rim rubbing on the bottom ball joint stud. I've made up these for him to try out at the next meeting. They're threaded with a 1mm...

If the gasket is the same as the ones used in the locally made PACE headers, I think they are still available from PACE here in Victoria.
