That S54 engine is really pricey for oil changes and water pumps here. Better for you may be the little older S50 engine. I have the S52 in my Z3 Mcoupe. only 240hp by the book.

Possibly a bad coil? If you haven't already done so check your grounds. They are a bigger problem than I would have ever thought.

For the street the copper bits just grab too hard. Even if you had both discs sprung you would have a hard time with it. I think you are right in going with the organic disc....get the best one you can though.

Re: Std 1986 engine stalls
When was the last time the injector seals were replaced? I'm thinking that if more fuel is fixing the problem you may have a vacuum leak. That can destroy your engine with detonation. The seal kits (one for each cylinder) are less than $5.00 here and are pretty easy to fit. They are a standard Bosch...

Kevin,
So far as I know, the proximity sensors have problems with being too far away from the toothed wheel they are reading. The only way they are too close is if they are making contact (which ruins them).
Hth,
Scott

Old cars from the 60's and 70's just brought in outside air thru the heater and directed it to the windshield. Once you are driving crack the side windows open and that will take care of them. Your electric demister on the hatch will do fine. It does take a bit of time to do the demisting...engine w...

Re: Piston rings What do you use?
Just to update this..... I've been using it up in the mountains and on the 60 mile daily commute and the rings did finally seat. I still need to check compression, but I'm not burning oil like I had been when hard on the gas at high revs. I put my Greg Gordon intake with the bigger AFM and K&N a...

Sorry to hear about this.
The sadness will pass.
Soon you may be a wee bit angry about it, but that will pass.
Later, you'll get to "OOOH I get to build that new car!"

Re: Liner cavity wear repair
You could have them done in what I know as "industrial hard chrome". Its thin, but does add to the dimension, is somewhat rust resistant, and because it is metal will still conduct heat well. I think it can be put only on the surfaces that see water. This isn't the bright shiny stuff of 50...

Re: Liner cavity wear repair
Manganese phosphate, or Parkerizing, is both a protective layer of a sacrificial material and a porous surface that will hold oil. It will increase the outer or inner diameter of a finished part, but I don't know the process well enough to say by how much. The regular glycol based coolant does resis...

Are you talking about the cylinder liners? The 3.0l ones I bought were not coated at all, but for anti-corrosion during shipping (oil/wax coating).

I ask as the round tooth cambelt is "supposed" to go more miles between changes and generally be "more reliable".

Re: cambelt failure...
Do the new type pulleys fit to the cams and crank the same? Is it possible to retrofit the new belt and pulleys to the older 12v engine?
Thanks,
Scott

Re: main bearings crankshaft
That sounds too hard a material. It will wear well but any debris in the system will scratch and wear the crank. The bearings are supposed to be the cheap part that wears out and can be replaced inexpensively. The bearing overlay, and the bit most likely to touch the crankshaft, is babbitt. It is a ...
