Hi Guys,

Ive found a few sets of wheels to bid on. I should be buying other bits first, but at the price that most of these are on offer for, I can't really say no!

I realise the offset is extreme. May i have your opinions? Zamani, Kevin, Mats, MD, Micke- anyone?
They are front 17×8.0JJ +5 / Rear 17×9.0JJ +18 114.3 PCD so they will sit out a fair way- plus I will either need to change the bolt pattern completely (not a bad thing) or have adaptors made up like Daniel did for his 24v, and Ben for his 164- which will push them out even further.... am I being stupid with these? These are the Work mesh 17s.

Then there are these BBS 5x114.3 * Front 8J offset +45 * Rear 9J offset +40

Or these SSR Professors 5H 10,0 17X8.0 +37

OR there are some OZs that 5x100 17x8 +35 which I know will fit easily.

Dilemma is, I really love the work wheels, but I fear they are simply too extreme to fit...

And they would only be street wheels, MD!

The first will be tight. I know they fit mine but then it's somewhat modified. No room for adaptors of course.

The rest will fit and with the adaptor thickness you can tune them just where you want them.

114.3 won't be possible to fit on the hubs without adding material somehow.
I think you need to find seriously small sidewall tires to get them to fit with such low ET.

Sorry to contradict you Mats but it is possible to converts to 114.3 without adding conversion plates. We did it to the Brick to keep the original track configuration. Lots of stuffing around and requires the replacement of the rear wheel bearings as they get destroyed in the process ! Jules I don't suggest this route.
However I do recommend that 114.3 bore size as it is a common fitting of wheels in Oz so your choices get considerably more easy. I am about to do the same conversion on another racer I am building.
Personally for road cars in Oz I don't like 17's because the tyre wall size is too low. The ride is harsh on out crappy roads and the rims are easily damaged. I know it's a matter of preference but to be quite honest, in my opinion bigger than 16" wheels on our period cars just don't look right. There is too much visual emphasis on the wheels rather than being an integration into the look of the car as a whole. Please yourself.

Strange, my 5/120 brake discs have half the holes outside the hub outer diameter, that would suggest that the 114.5 PCD would be juuuust on the edge. Do you have pics?

Sorry mats I don't have a photo and I have since sold the car/ What I can tell you is if you examine a Nissan Skyline wheel, it will clearly show you the position it would sit on the converted hub if that helps.

To he hones I haven't got a clue what you mean.

The outside diameter of the front hub is about 125mm, PCD of 114.5mm and a stud diameter of 12mm makes it impossible for it to work in theory. Unless you make a spacer of some sort.

SydneyJules, glad to see you consider quality wheels rather than what ever cheep shite you can find. Name brand Japanese wheels like Work, Enkei and Rays Engineering are excellent quality. Strong and light .
I had written off the possibility of going to 5 x 114.3 PCD with the standard hubs, but..........

* I think that with the Alfa 'disk behind hub' set up, there wouldn't be enough room for the stud head.

I just picked these up Jules - Stilauto, 17x7.5, ET30, 5x100PCD - Ebay, $355.

I have 300ZX (Z32) non turbo wheels on my Milano...16x7.5 +45 with a 20mm adapter = 25 offset.

The rear is completely fine, but with 225/45/16 tires, I can't even come close to doing full lock in the front...wouldn't be a problem if the wheel well was larger.

If I had a much smaller outer wheel diameter (15 inch wheels and reasonable tire height) I might have been able to make it work.

Just know the front will be tough.

I know Daniel was using FD wheels (16x8j, et 50) and he was using a thinner wheel adapter too.

Be careful on the offset...as a practical guide, if you will be using wheels/tire combo with an overall diameter near or greater than 24", I would be careful when you get around the 20's. I don't think lower offset than that would even work unless you run very little caster or bang the wheel well in a lot.
