replace water drain tubes in sun roof

Post by palumbo »

Has anyone ever replaced or repaired the two water drain tubes in the sun roof trough leading down into the fender wells. What is involved in the replacement? Does the headliner have to be removed? Does the windshield have to be removed? There is no access through the interior A arm pillar molding.

Thanks.

ive replaced this in other types of cars and all i can say is...have fun..zero access to alot of the areas so get youself a "fish tape"(its for running wireing thru house walls) with this tool it will make the job 100 times easyer yes the headliner will have to be atleast partly removed in the areas your working or well...you couldnt attatch the tubes to the sunroof nipples..if you get a small enuf fish tape and the old tubes are still ruffly in place you "could" run the tape up the old tubes remove enuf headliner to fead the new tube onto the fish tape and while pulling the old tube out pull the new tube in...this is the "best" way to do it but its not always posible

First, is you sunroof water gutter rusted through? If not:

Pull off the rear cover inner front wheel wells. Replace with stainless screws later. Get a stiff wire and put a small loop on the end so you don't stuff it through the plastic tube. Find the tube ends on each side. Work from bottom up. Usually much mud and debris in tube ends if never cleaned. Pour some water from the top to see if tubes are patent....

Headliner is a pain in the butt. I would rather replace the front guibo.....
