MS-EDIS recipe

Ok, guys, I know there are a lot of posts about using MS and EDIS to control ignition, but it's a mess for me.

Let's start from the beginning. When you're running your MS and want to control the ignition, then you get an EDIS-6 module and...don't know much.

One thing. On an L-jetronic->MS conversion you need a 36-1 trigger and sensor, right? But do you still need that stuff on a Motronic (164)->MS conversion? The Motronic's equipped engines already have two crank position sensors for ignition.

My goal is to make this understandable to every newbie like me

you ALWAYS need an EDIS specific trigger whell if you want to use it, that's the biggest (only?) hurdle.

Mats, do you mean that in Motronic equipped engines, you have to get rid of the original crank sensors and install an EDIS trigger instead?

It's possible you maybe can use the sensor itself since both are VR but the trigger wheel must be switched out to one that keeps the original teeth configuration and rotational position for the EDIS used.

if you have a 60-2 wheel you can use a V3 board with the VR-input and 3 VB921....use the generic wheel code....without the edis module...but you have to set the dwell-times for the coils...

Enzo, I see that it's easier with the V3 board, but what about using the V2.2 one? You'll need an EDIS-6 module, a 36-1 wheel and sensor. Anything else? Is that simple?

+ the EDIS coils.

+ you need to run the Extra code in you ECU.
+There are some modifications needed on the printcard to get the right input/output for EDIS. Not to difficult, it is explained in -extra documentation.

+ plug leads with Alfa connector in one end, and Ford coil connector in the other. Anyone who has a good source for those ?

Does anybody have pics of such installation on a V6?

Matts,

Can the VB921 coil drivers be added to the 2.2 board and then use the stock 60-2 wheel?

I also need to resolve this issue as I have a 2.2 board but was hoping to use coil packs instead of the distributor on my 3.0L conversion and the oil pump drive either has to be for the distributor or the 3.0L type with the nut and washer to hold it in place.

This is all new territory for me as well so any help will be appreciated.

jes, you can use 3x VB921 for the coil pack...but you need this ciruit for the vr sensor

Thanks Enzo,

Looks like a bit more soldering.

Where can be fitted the trigger-wheel in the V6? Pics?? :D
