Megasquirt and the D-Jetronic - whats the diff

Post by sammbo »

Hi Folks,
This is probably a dumb question, but I've just been reading the 'Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management' book
by Charles Probst.

On Page 12 of chapter 7, he talks about the D-Jetronic injection system. It
was one of the early types. It didn't have an AFM, it worked primarily on
intake manifold pressure (as well as throttle position and Engine RPM).

He mentioned that this system is inferior to the later systems and not worth
considering. The only thing worse seems to be carburettors. However if you
want to tune for performance, he says some people use carbs rather than the D-Jetronic. .

As I want to get rid of the AFM and use the MS & MAP I'm concerned, Isn't the Megesquirt based on the same things as the D-jetronic??
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive Jap crap.
Come to think of it, I often do !

So one guy says speed/density is old technology and now all the aftermarket systems are just antiquated?

Some research on your part would reveal that pretty much every aftermarket engine management system is speed/density over mass/air or alpha/N.

Modern Denso systems on Hondas are speed/density.

But of course, you could believe one guy who wrote a practically worthless book 15 years ago.
