Hello, newish GTV6 Owner in Los Angels

Post by rhodes1 »

Hello, I'm Richard A. Williams. I have loved the GTV6 since I first saw them in the mid-80's. I purchased a rust free 1986 model in January and it went right into a ground up restoration. About 80% done now.

Great, great site, it has already been a very valuable tool in learning about these wonderful automobiles.

I have a link below to the work from the moment I purchased the Alfa:

Best Wishes

Richard

Nice blue color! Great job in the well...most people leave this part out of the resto.... Interesting look, what are the rally lights for....local canyon racing?

It is not a standard Alfa colour, as you know, but I really like the lustre of the colour on my Jag so I figured, why not.

The rally lamps will come off when the job is complete. They are mounted for the moment to see if the shall conflict with the lighting system. I will only use them in the future when I rally the car--a dream of mine for years. I would like to particpate in the Pan Carrera in the open class now that they are considering 80's cars. We'll see if it happens, if not, it'll just pace a Jagaur XK-150 that a mate of mine has used in the race in past years.

Thanks again.

Best Wishes

Richard.

P.S.--Where in MI are you? I lived in Bloomfield Hills for a few years. How is the Alfa managing in the poor weather?

Engine work

Post by rhodes1 »

Just a basic 2.5 motor. It has been rebuilt in total. New radiator, a/c unit, valves, coolant tank, all new as well. I wished to keep the motor as stock as possible, but will likely switch over to K&N filter. A/C unit is all GM as it fits well and puts out a lot of ice cold air. We've been having 104 degree weather here a lot as late and don't enjoy it at all.

Any tips for run in after starting? Does the GTV6 require a certain amount of time before the engine car be pushed hard? I am dying for a weekend jaunt up Highway 1 to Carmel and back witht he sunroof open and the Clash on the stereo.

Best Wishes

Richard

I just ran it up to 4000/4500 rpm for the first hour or so then gradually pushed a bit harder as time goes by. Just dont labour or work the engine too hard for the first 1000 kms or so.

Clash fan here to. Nothing like a good blast of London calling or Combat rock to get the blood pumping! Enjoy Dude. Nice ride. 8)

Tim,Richard...Clash!.Damn,you guys are making me feel old here..Yea,a big Clash fan as well, but this takes me back 20-25 years??Hells bells..

Nice car Rich..Not for rallying though  8) As for running in,drive her normally....if she sees 6000rpm in the first 200 miles, thats ok in my book...

Richard:

I'm in Troy at the moment, near Somerset Mall....just bought a home on the west edge of Plymouth, nice rolling hills and still green country....less pollution, too.

As far as rust, my car originally came from NJ(near where I originally came from!), spent a few years in Texas, and just arrived here two years ago....minimal rust...always in dry garage....never sees rain or salt (Michigan's other paving material!)

I agree with the rally abuse statement above. Put it on a racetrack and have some fun. Buy a Ford Focus RS or 4 wheel drive Escort and rally the crap out of it!

Cheers, xrad

Rear wing

Post by rhodes1 »

It has been test mounted, thus the holes drilled in the rear hatchback, but was removed for some final "tweaking" by the fellows at Wize Guyz Kustoms. It actually looks really nice, but as it was built to suit it still needed a bit of sanding here and there to be rid of the odds and sods. It also needs to have paint applied to it.

Many thanks.
