Hey Zamani finally made it to my neck of the woods and what better way to enjoy a hot British summers day than go look at a whole bunch of Alfas down at the coast in my store and my neighbour Alex Jupe .
So plan was I catch lift with him in his Renta Polo and bring back my carbi GTV to my place in Surrey Hills .. ( a good 70 mile drive )
Well after looking at all the painstakingly well restored Alfas and Dino's in the Alex Jupe Motorsport workshop and Georges race 75 in my store it was now for test drive in the Fire breathing carbi GTV 3.0 ...
After car was warm I decided to boot it a bit when the misfire under load occurred which I thought was sorted . Faaasark ! Dam! So glad Zamani was still there ( nor because I like you hahaha just kidding ) but I still had lift home and once again talk some more Alfa bollocks !
So plan on car is now change plug leads as it last thing I have not done since service and it a proper electrical issue especially when you see the Rev counter jumping around ! Plug leads are 20 years old !
Items changed in service are all plugs , fuel filters , dizzy cap rotor , coil , green wire ( even changed capacitors and box next to coil )
After plug leads I will be scratching head but I'm confident it is issue as compression is perfect and carbs are spot on !

Anyway Zamani ... It was great to meet you and glad you got to see one of the best prepared modified 3.2 Alfa 75 race car of Georges ..
Pity you did not meet him as he was assisting Snowdon with the two Group A GTV's at Silverstone thus weekend !
Here's pic George just sent from pits BTW

Zamani you have left few days to early as my ignition lead set has arrived from EB Spares UK at very competitive price . The motor is so smooth and pulls right through the range . Was so impressed with its performance that I even offerd Alex to test it which he gladly did (in and around the tiny lanes here .)

Guys,

It was great to meet up with Kev. I was going to go to SIlverstone Classics that weekend, but the family wanted to do other things. I knew if I went to Silverstone I would be stuck the whole day there. So I emailed Kev that night and said I'd like to meetup and so we did.

It was a beautiful drive down, even in the somewhat dry and warm weather. Drove down from Putney to Bosham and picked up Kev along the way.

Kev and Alex is a super nice chaps!

Here are some pics of Alex Jupe's place. Will post more later.

Kevin,
Regarding your float valves, you would be better off reaming them as opposed to drilling. If you were to use a hand drill or a drill press you would almost certainly go wrong. The way to do it would be in a lathe. Another thing is that standard drills aren't "just right" for brass, they will drill but they tend to grab and dig in which messes up the surface finish in the hole.

I hope that helps,
Scott

Hi Scott
Thanks for the advice and explanation on why not to drill . JimK has put me onto a shop that has the correct size in stock . Your info will be passed onto a mate of mine who wanted them for his car :) Great to have the technical advice on this forum :)

I read on Oliver K's facebook page that his 75 3.9 got black flagged after 3-laps? 103 db? LOL! It would be funny if F1 cars were not flagged but his was.

I was there on sunday afternoon and saw Oliver's 75 in it's trailer. I thought it might be broken but later i heard about the black flag. Such a shame. Hearing 9k rpm would have made my day even better.

Kevin, it was nice to meet you and put a face to a name :P

I hope you enjoyed the event. Maybe we' ll see you again next year. :)

Hi Remco
It was great to finally meet up and even better to see your mad Giulia . My mates who came with me could not believe how good the job was on your car ! I thought there were more crowds around your car than any other :)

Zamani you have to do this event . It was brilliant even though the weather was pretty shite on the Saturday !
There is just so much to take in . Firstly you have all the static cars which were over 2500 that visitors came with their Alfas and parked in all their rows according to models . The GTV6 line was super impressive and so well organised . Various versions and body kits were on display and I was very lucky to get my 3.0 carb GTV into the special display with the Tourings and GTAs so I had worthy company :) thanks to Theo for organising that . Did feel special . Their was a lot of interest in this car as I did not realise it was also part of a feature in the Dutch Alfa Club magazine in 2014 along with Xavier Havaux GTV 3.0 .
The pits had many Alfa dealers ( classic) with their parts out on tables. I was like a kid in a candy store buying stuff for my Junior and GTV including getting two engines for my mates in South Africa. Amazing connections you can set up. The traders came from all over Europe including Richard from Classic Alfa in UK ( my mobile was on charge in his pits for ages from taking so many pics )
Then their was all the classic race cars including my all time favourite .. The TZ2 . If I had one last drive in any car of choice it would be this possibly followed by the 3.9 of Oliver's !
As they're were so many racing categories and displays I did not first realise that the F1 sound car was actually Oliver's 75 . I literally could not believe it that the sound can come from that . When he came into pits I thought I would see maybe a DTM in engine in the car and a sequential box but of course as you see it's the busso V6 from GTA . It was great to have long chat with him as he also had one of Dawies engines many years ago which he kept modifying . He is still in touch with Dawie as well .
It was nice to hear some of the secrets in that motor and been able to discuss set up etc . His prop is a carbon fibre one piece with Flexi disc upfront like you get on the DTM 155 . But the key to this set up is perfect engine alignment to box. I went through this exact procedure with my old race car but that was a donkey compared to this :)
He specifically does not put any wings , spoilers or bigger wheel arches on the car to keep it original like it raced in the day . Also he likes to scare the Porsche guys on the trackdays.
Pity he was black flagged so many times because the sound was music !
I also spent some time with a German 75 owner who also gave out info on his gearbox etc ( also at back ) with Baci gear sets and syncros on 2nd and5th only .
So I will always be coming to this event as you must need two days. I was in a group of 20 guys so in evenings we went out had few beers and enjoyed good food. Our AROC rep which is Nick Clancy organised our hotel and linked me up with guys from my area so few of us drove in convoy which was fun.
So yes you must do this event ! I don't know if it's very year or two years .
Few pics

It's an annual event. Only the location varies between Zandvoort and Assen racetrack. Depending on availability, price etc.

I have been going to the spettacolo for almost 20 years now. I normally only go on the sunday.

Variety in cars is huge. From simple daily 156 to some 1930's car that was driven to Zandvoort from germany, by itself, not on a trailer.

My car sure got some attention  .. I was actually a bit surprised as i didn't hear a bad comment on it. :D

My girlfriend and daughters were less impressed as i had to keep opening the bonnet to show people the source of that strange enginesound.

Took quite a few pics with permission on some good cars . This 75 was from Germany and used Baci gear sets in side box .
Really nice owners and team .
