Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Ok, finally some GTV stuff.
Moved the car a while back, now most of the stuff is in the right place. Unbelievable how much stuff one can collect over the years...
Anyway, here is a pic from tonight.

Nice and shiny!
Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
9x17 OZ Superturismo (ex 156 STCC/ETCC) with Kumho V70A 235/40-17.
At the moment there is no engine in the car so it will probably come down some more, at least in the front.

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
How much do they weigh? Are these WTCC specific wheels which weigh less or just the regular Superturismo wheels from OZ?
Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Min weight 9Kg IIRC.
Not the lightest around but "easy" to find becsuse there is still a few Alfas in the STCC.

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Huge step forward today, dropped in the engine for the first time!
Everything fits, big relief!
Short way from the FMIC to the throttle, just a 90 deg elbow and Bob's your uncle!
Just need to figure out where to put the dump valve...
Nice clearance all around the plenum, nice. TS throttle body, 70mm.
Yes the compressor housing is quite large, what would you expect?
Quite tight to fit in the wastegare aqtuator as well, hopefully it won't hit the body due to engine movements.
Overview of the engine compartment, notice the forward move of the turbo compared to the stock 75T manifold I use as the inner part of my fixture.
Naturally the alternator doesn't fit in it's usual place and will be moved to the right hand side, it's been positioned there for years in this car actually.
Moving the turbo forward helps if you want to build a nice downpipe, will probably make the life a little easier for the brake and steering components too...
Nice and roomy under the plenum, for now...
Another shot of the turbo...
Next task: Design the cooling system. Where do I put the pump for instance? Hmmm...

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
I want one...
Coming along nicely big guy.
What's happening with the dizzy?
Future cautions:
1 Radiant heat impact on brake line and master cylinder
2 Engine torque restraint on LHS

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
I like the custom engine mounts. Only way to align the engine properly is to go with cheaper custom mounts and not pay cut throat prices of stock Alfa mounts.
Mats did you properly align the engine? Does the 4cyl engine also have the east-west alignment problem like the V6?
When I had my driveshaft balanced, the shop made sure the shaft was perfectly aligned on their machine. Then it is balanced. So I thought to myself how can any driveshaft not vibrate when when the shaft goes under the car and it's tweaked due to the engine misalignment. That means any driveshaft balancing work is a waste of time.

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Yup, EWP with controller. It will probably end up under the plenum/throttle somewhere.
The dizzy is a TS unit, will stay on together with a MSD 6A + Blaster 2 coil. Monster spark and less problems then any other solution IMO.
The heat is an issue but willbe dealt with, planning heat shields and maybe leading some kind of cold air feed in there.
Torque limitations? You mean due to crappy DP? Maybe. I'm actually looking at electronically restrictong the torque levels to save the gearbox so I'm not too worried...
The engine will be aligned, trust me. Hopefully I will kickstart the new propshaft project too, that will happen after this is together and working though, I do NOT need another parallell project right now.

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Hi Mats,
No, not torque limitations but torque rotational movement of the engine that rips off engine mounts usually on take off.

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Ah, got it. Well it's the same mounts I have had for ages so hopefully they will take the punishment.
There is no good place to put a support I think, where would you mount it on the engine?

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
the most common places ive seen a support mounted is on the studs on the front of the head which the aircon braket is usally mounted, but as you have such a large inlet and the turbo, there aint much room for one...
good to see some progress, what gearbox are you running in the back?
