Post by TCB323 »

hi, USA 1984 , can anyone tell me where the courtesy light timer unit is located?

I have cleaned the door switches so I suspect this unit .

thanks!

There is no timer - do the lights never come on or never go off? Also, most security systems have a light timer feature, so it could be something is up with that.

interior light timer

Post by TCB323 »

the book and wiring diagrams definetely reference a timer. Other owners of 84's have told me there is a timer and the lights stay on for 20 sec. or so when the door is opened.

the lights do not come on with the door switch.
they do work with the switch on the light itself

i have removed the security system and i do think that is related.

thanks.

I have only been in one gtv6 where these lights functioned appropriately. It was great! They were on when the doors were open, off when closed, and they even dimmed off after you closed the door.

Sorry, though, I cant help!

Hi Josef

84 cars and on DOES have an original timer unit located on drivers side under the dash secured with a screw.(mine are working as they should on an 1984 GTV2.0)

the lights should stay on for about 20 seconds or so.

courtesy light dimmer linked to many things:

ign key switch
relay set
courtesey light timer which links to door switches and courtesy lights

everything probably works..just poor connections (especially door switches)

courtesy light timer thanks!!!

thanks for the info on the location of this unit, there were splices into the harness from the old alarm.

it works fine now.

btw today was the first time this car has run in over 6 years. had to replace every fuel hose and vacuum line, flush out fuel pump and get injectors cleaned but what a great sound when it finally caught and ran!

the car has always been garaged, and it's amazing how badly these hoses deteriorate even inside out of the sun. just poor quality to begin with i guess?

thanks again,
josef

With just 15K on it those were probably all original hoses which means they were probably ... 23 years old!

Yeah, put some pics up in the Introduce Gallery - how's the paint and interior?
