3.7 156 vs. E46 M3

Post by Zamani »

Seems that this red 156 in SA got spanked. It's on youtube, I'm a little discouraged to post the link, but go and search on youtube.

The European E46 M3s have over 340 horsepower, this one is modified, and while it's quicker, it doesn't appear to be overwhelmingly so.

There are another 2 video clips of the 2 cars, one of which is about 2.5 minutes long. Anyway I've seen a video of a stock CSL vs. a CSL with 3.9X diff. Quite a difference in acceleration. The longer video isn't that pathetic. At the very least you can see the cars clearly, the video is not totally compressed until you can barely make out anything.

You guys wouldn't believe the war of words those videos caused on a local SA based car forum. Must say though, that the pics of the GTV and another 3.8 156 Alfa based in Cape Town are absolutely stunning. Will try and find them to post up here for you guys to enjoy.

Z I always maintain a street race is just supposed to be a bit of harmless fun.You cannot go and sprout 'scientific facts' based on an impromptu TLGP like some people on this other site.

Take the other day I hooked up with that stunning new Audi S5 in a TLGP close to my office. Was fun and my little 3.6 whipped his ass.Now does this conclusively prove a GTV6 3.6 is faster than a new V8 Audi ? No,not a chance way to many variables to consider BUT was it good fun ? You be it was and I walked into work with a seriously stupid grin on my face.

Exactly Fernando!

These street races are just that, street races. Too many variables on the driver and car. Just take it for what it is nothing more.

Zamani,
The war of words with this soulblade idiot was an exchange with me. This particular 156 3.7 was just a big bore, exhaust & Unichip...........................no cams or headwork, covered 300000km's+, clutch was slipping & an exhaust manifold leak. On the same evening in that condition his friends E39M5 7 another E46M3 were beaten convincingly, then he brings his along which had a 4.1:1 final drive, exhaust, de-cat, ECU software, performance intake, in his words stock standard
He beat my very old(99') tired old 156 but when the next day I brought along my 3.8L 6XITB'd 147GTA, well that was a little different, I left him by over 300m over a standing km, needless to say, they posted no video.
Kevin knows my 147GTA very well & now with a change to the engine management system, a very wild exhaust system & an additional 6Xinjectors for the methanol injection that hits at 4500rpm, well it's an animal.
V8 M3's with mods, V10 M5's are a joke. I'm not much liked by the BIMMER boyz or the AMG crowd & as Kevin will know, far less now with my 156GTA 3.7L Turbo. We made over 500wkW at Dastek's dyno in Pretoria, Dawie De Villiers who built the beast for me reckons that it's absolutely frightening. That's only aat 1bar & 95unleaded pump gas.
The car looks pretty stock, Alfa red & the optional Alfa GT 18" rims, you have to study it carefully to notice a mild (-30mm) ride height from the XYZ Racing coil overs & 355mm 6-Piston race brakes.
Alfas don't need body mods in my opinion, just a tastefull set of suitable rims.
My old 84' GTV6 3L with Glenwood Motors 3.5L & now RSR suspension, Powerbrake race brakes & Colotti close ratio gearbox is getting ready to hunt M3's, 350/370Z's etc.
Advantage down in Port Elizabeth,SA....we are at sea level so the turbo hot hatch brigade have no advantage & we have zero traffic cops to talk of & no traffic :D

I'll keep you all posted.
As for this soul blade idiot, next time I see him it will not be to race, he will be on a liquid diet for 6 months at the very least
85' 3L GTV6(White) number 197off 212, 3.5L
83' 3L GTV6 (Red) number 46 off 212
03' 156GTA(Red)3.7L Turbo
06' 147GTA(Blue)3.8L+6XITB's
