S engine w broken timing belt

Post by zambon »

I am looking at a 164s that is owned by the father of a friend. the timing belt broke and the pistons collided with the valves.
I have been working mostly on my milano transmissions up to this point and am interested in learning about overhauling engines so this project is looking appealing to me right now.
Reportedly, one of the pistons has a small indentation from the collision. The car comes with a spare 164l engine so I would swap that in if I bought the car.
Which would leave me with a big engine project...
Can the dented piston still be run? The owner says that he has consulted with a few club guys who advised him to put on new heads and run it.
The heads will need to be overhauled. Typically, does this situation require replacement of all valves and guides?
