Smoking, is it bad for my engine's health?

Post by SimonB »

Over the last year my 2.5 GTV6 has started smoking when I lift off, especially after caning it. Having read through the forum I reckon that its the valve guides. My question is this, the engine is running well apart from this and I am saving up for a 3 ltr conversion (new baby means that this will take a while!). Will it do any harm if I just top up the oil from time to time. How long before I have to do something? Thanks for any advice.

My 2.5 smoked through the guides to the point of embarrasment with no further damage other than environmental. I finally took the car off the road when it was using about 1 litre of oil every 1000 km  but that seems to be only slightly outside the factory allowable spec :?
Only problem I have is I'm still not ready to put in my 3.0 24v because of the list of good mods I seem to keep adding to. It'll get there eventually.
