I'm doing the usual 164 3.0 to Milano engine conversion. The nipple for coolant output on the driver's side head is a larger diameter than the one used on the Milano/GTV6. I removed it (it needed to be destroyed in the process), assuming the nipple on my old 2.5 L head would just screw right in there. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the hole for the 164 nipple is actually larger than the old 2.5L nipple!
Oh great, a simple part that is not easy to adapt, since it is not an original Affa configuration. David in AUS has indicated the hole is for a a metric-sized hydraulic fitting, and not for a US pipe thread.
Has anybody else been through this problem? I seek advice on how to procure an adapter to fit in there, the metric size, pitch, etc. and a possible source to get the necessary parts.
Is this conversion project ever going to end (10 months and counting) ?
Thanks guys,
Its possibly one of the following-
16mm x1.5 pitch or
18mm x 1.5 pitch
Its not the 14 x 1.5 as its not the same as gtv6 std.
Save yourself a load of grief and simply tap it out to a locally available plug.

French cars are shit and shit expensive to service and bloody awful and unreliable and expensive and friends don't let friends drive french cars and you wait years for parts.
Follow up to hose nipple...
Thanks for all whom replied. I ended up finding the old 164 nipple in the trash bin and salvaged the theaded part. I silver soldered a 1/2" brass nipple to it and away we go. The 164 engine conversion document on this site is a great resource. What it does NOT say is how impossible it is to find metric hydraulic fittings here in the USA.
My advice to all who do this conversion: keep the old 164 nipple, buy a simple 3/4" to 1/2" inline reducer pipe at any auto parts store, then put it in the heater hose. That is what Seb meant...

Glad to hear you solved the problem. It just goes to show problems can be solved in many ways.
When I wrote the 3.0L conversion document it was while actually working on the engine and I was much happier doing that than typing. There are a number of things, in hindsight, that I should have added such as the size and thread details of the brass nut and tail, suppliers, etc. I had to replace mine as the original was too badly corroded and they are no longer available as a replacement part. They were not hydraulic fittings, I purchased them from a local firm (in AUS) specialising in pipe and hydraulic fittings.
The document was meant to be "live", change it and add different solutions, suppliers, etc. I would be happy to add other suggestions and alternative solutions, just send them to me via PM. My main aim was to get all the information in one place as a lot of what I did was obtained from various topics on this great site. It was designed to show other non-professional Alfa enthusiasts, these projects can be done in the home workshop.
