V6 24 Valve engine - Lots of play in the Tensioner bushing

Post by Michael »

Hey guys:

Need some opinions on this. The engine is a 24 valve 164 LS engine.
The bronze bushing shown here has lots of play in it - to the extent that I'm wondering if this is a critical issue which needs to be addressed before I can use this engine. Its a Glenwood rebuilt engine - so apparently they did not see a problem with this...

Here is an avi clip which shows the play - probably best to download the clip to your local machine and then run it.

Opinions/experience please :)

OK, I'll answer my own question.
The play in the bearing as supplied is not acceptable, especially when one has 24 expensive valves at stake.
The worn bronze bushing can probably be replaced but I chose to renew the entire arm...
Jason at Alfissimo stocks the part - "timing tensioner arm - 60580238" - ~US$140
