Does anyone out there know if 156 24v cams will fit into a 164 based 3L 24valve engine?
are there any differences?

Ask Kevin... he probably knows for sure if they'll fit.
I believe they fit because some people use the 156 GTA intake camshafts in the 164 engine and i can't believe there is much difference in them.

In addition, 156, 164 and 166 use the same cam locks. The exception is the GTA which uses a different cam profile and different cam locks.

Just adding to the above......and to get GTA cam blocks is impossible so you use the standard cam block as its just the top of the profile intake ''cut off'', keeping an eye that the lobe is centrally placed in cam block. Double check with marks at same time on back of cams and your timing is spot on ...until the belt stretches effecting left exhaust only. Sorry enough useless info now.
