Valves on S A 3ltre

Post by dawie botha »

2 months back a mechanic test drove my car after taking her in for a minor problem on back wheel and broke the jockey pulley.I ended up with bent valves and a serious repair bill !
Car whas taken in for new valves and the head over skimmed in the process ! how the hell did i end up here after having a perfectly running engine 2 months back ? s&%$#*t
I have now decided to take whole engine out and clean the engine bay as i was planning to do it anyway. Will also replace everything that looks like they need replacing!Herewith pics of the whole process

Dawie , no need to loosen bell housing onto engine block to take engine out . Just loosen pinch bolts on prop shaft where it goes in to splines and the 8mm bolts that hold the back of bel housing . I will post you a pic tomorrow of an engine bay that's just been painted and put back meticulously . :D

Dawie, how much did they skim off the heads?

Is the mechanic still alive?

Dawie , here is the pic I took at Alex workshop . Try get all your brightwork anodised again ( yellow passivate) its really cheap in SA . Just make sure they don't loose the stuff . When you paint your black stuff use satin black as its not glossy nor mat . You can put the heat shield back in but you not gonna get matching shield .
The brake box you can just wire brush that to get its lustre back . Use fine brush .

Two things:

If you want to specifically talk about exhaust systems, I suggest you move your enquiry into the Exhaust topic set.

Once you are there, tell me how radical do you want to go?

Dawie , as md says go to exhaust thread but let us know if you gonna put the 2.5 heads back on the the 3.0 or if you managed to find 3.0 valves . I got some nice pics of exhausts for you . .

HI KEVIN. Can you please supply me the sizes of the 3Lt Valves on the Alfa GTV6. I would like to see if the valves will fit & if it might be case of the head already being over sceamed. I am sending a few pics o the head & valves.

I will email you as the 75 3.0 valves are bigger than our GTV 3.0 valves and those are not available any more . The valves will fit but you need to send it to a proper engineering works . Do you have any pics of the head from side view showing the brass plugs on the side . This gives an idea of how much has been skimmed of head . Bigger problem is your altitude you at with your fuel and those heads if the thy are skimmed to much . You must be about 2500 ft above sea level .

I bought it for US$17 each from international-auto.com. But you can have it for US$12 each + shipping. Does that sound ok?
