GTA crank and 164 12V crank pulley

Post by 75evo »

I'm using this combination GTA crank and 164 12V crank pulley and I find that the 164 waterpump pulley proud by 2.25mm. I made an aluminum washer and mounted it behind the crank pulley. . The problem with the washer is it's got a thickness variation of 2.5mm to 2.2mm, not the best of washers.... I will have to eventually make another one. I may 3D print one for now as the melting point of the PLA is around 220C and the pulley area probably only goes to 130C or so.

Has anyone experienced this? Maybe I should have used a 24V front pulley? Anyway this was what Larry of Alfa Parts Exchange installed for me

Stop playing with 3D stuff here, IT WILL DISINTEGRATE with the required 150Nm torque on the nut! Make a proper washer out of sheet steel or make one on a lathe.

And move the alternator the same way, too.

I'll use the current aluminum spacer which I made for now. I'll have a better spacer made with thickness variation less than 0.1mm next week.

Kevin,

I'm using the 164 24V water pump with the bolt on pulley. This is my last mechanical pump. I saw a GTV6 in Aus with the craig davies electric water pump, next round i'm going that route.

Z it's seems you making life hard for youself :D
With the amount of electrical failures ( whether it's been a rare alternator issue or a rare fault in a kill switch ) I have had in a GTV in the years I don't think I would trust an electric pump for water especially when the mechanical one has never ever given me a days grief .
If your new washer crushes fractionally then you gotta big issues on your hands .

I'm going to make a steel washer. I bought a huge ass washer and will try to modify it on the lathe (open center bore).

The mechanical waterpump is ok I guess, every 2-3 years the belt is coming off anyway. But I like the fact that the waterpump speed can be controlled.

The motor with black covers is in George's 75 behind my 3.7 . It's service time on my GTV carbi car as can see ( not clearly ) cam covers off with new Cambelt . Only done 3000km but it's been five years . Thought i would take some pics today of water pump pulleys!
