Instrumentation

Post by ar4me »

Ok, I'm about to design the instrumentation for the 3.7 track ONLY car. Currently, I hooked up all stock gauges in working order for temporary use. However, once the car sees extensive track use I would want more comprehensive instrumentation to better monitor the car (and stop before possible expensive damage...). Here is a list of instrumentation that comes to mind:
1. tach.
2. speedo.
3. engine oil pressure.
4. engine oil temp.
5. water temp.
6. brake pressure front.
7. brake pressure rear.
8. A/F ratio.
9. tranny oil temp (do we need tranny oil cooler?).
10. battery voltage.
11. fuel pressure.
12. fuel level.

Should I maintain stock AR instruments where possible? I lean that way in order to control cost. I could then use one stock AR water-temp warning light+gauge with sender for engine oil, and one for tranny oil. Perhaps not the most accurate, but good enough for rough monitoring.

Any thoughts, suggestions, etc.?

What instruments do you have in your race car?

I wouldn't keep anything OE if not needed for looks or rules.

Here's my current:
rpm
oil pressure light
oil pressure
oil temp
water temp
A/F meter
Intake air temp

sorry for the bad picture and car is (of course) UC

Here's the new coming in:

Nice Micke! UK 500 isn't bad, but you probably need some accessories. How much do you expect the entire system to run you?

I was looking at the stack display on the momo wheel

But way too expensive and overkill.

It will be £ 1k

includes the DL1 GPS based data logger which I need for work anyway. The device is ubelievable value for money.

Here's another economical option:
