Check out the cage I am building for an Alfetta sedan for club sprints. Note the rear section that has relevance to your question. It is tied to the transaxle rear support.

The needs of the GTV would be the same as the chassis is the same.

The engine bay bracing is not shown. There is no continuation through the firewall to the front chassis as it is fully seam welded and combined with the engine bay bracing design, it is not necessary and would just be extra weight for no appreciable gain in my application.

Well I removed the trunk floor today (battery box and tire well up to the transaxle cross member) and as a result of some pretty bad rust I had to cut the rear shock mounts back to about a foot into the car... :cry:
My car is off to the sand blaster this coming week and after it is blasted I will start installing the auto power cage with some modifications. MD I like the way you tie in to those beefed up rear shock mount and the transaxle cross member. I am going to have to go one step further by running a tube from the shock mount intersection back to where the rear bumper used to mount. This will facilitate mounting on rotisserie for painting and also pull out point for the track.

I am still on the fence about cutting that section out that bridges the towers...
I would like to get that gas tank way in the cabin, but maybe over the rear axle is optimum.

i scraped out the interior today with my mapp and putty knife, what a chore! is this the only way?! i have heard you can use dry ice or liquid nitrogen but i dont have those on the shelf. maybe i need to get some before the bottom of the car.
i am going to get the cage in tomorrow, modify it, and then weld it all up before thursday.. then off to the blaster.

finally set up an shop account with iap. woo hoo parts arriving daily!

OK WTF is a mapp in relation to this job?

I use a 2000w heat gun and a stiff putty knife. Wear leather gloves 'cause it gets a bit tropical from the heat gun. Once the lining gets warm, it just peals back like butter. Don't forget to do inside the doors too.

Hey Duck man..could you not use a 5 " diameter pipe for the roll cage instead of 4 1/2"?? :D :D

You could then hide nitrous in there as well..for the whole race!! :wink:

MD, you insult me with that door remark! psht.

I am just using a torch because i do not have a heat gun.

Despite my best attempts to keep this car skinny, my father, the primary driver of this vehicle, insists on a huge avionics style gauge panel in (atleast) a full fiberglass dash.. Plus, after i invested all that time to cut the trunk out he wants to creat a tail reminiscent of the alfetta but with perforated steel or al (maybe painted black) to clean up the back end without creating a parachute. I would just leave it open... oh well i'll get it right on my car.

I am about to break out the carboard to decide on a spoiler configuration.

Trust that i will finally post pics when the cage is finished and then again when the car is painted.
