I have to take back the suggestion to remove the screen as it indeed does keep out shrapnel if that happens to your engine. In turn the shrapnel stuffs the pump up and bearings along the way..
I did this on the recommendation of a Formula 1 mechanic. So much for those wankers.
What I can say is that you can create too much pressure and rob yourself of horsepower for no gain. Keep it below 80PSI and above 65PSI and it should be fine particularly if you are using a cooler as well.
