This is new Entry into Marque car catregory here in South Africa9pre 1985) . Basic rules are you have to keep full interior , same engine and drive to the track . In otherwords its a compromise class but its huge challenge to get the heavy GTV up to the front with the 2.5 motor. The original 3.0 motor was taken out by previous owner .
At this stage all finances are going into the handling, brakes ,safety and all other perishable seals , hoses etc. Once this has all been tested and car is set up then engine work will start as per JK BOOK :D
The car belongs to a friend of mine and I am just assisting to get it onto the grid .
Some pics to follow of its proggression . It will be fun to follow this thread throughout the year to see when this car ends up a fullblown race car.
The owner is a very accomplished driver so it will be more about car set up before motorwork takes place. He won this series in a 105 series gtv so it will be a hard task to follow with the 116 gtv.
RS suspension has been fitted , braided hoses , ferodo discs and race pads.
Exhaust has beenn a bit testing at the moment but will discuss later.
See all oil plugs have to be wired etc

Pics of the car itself. This bonnet or hood comes off my old TT GTV hence the air ducts. This car was a genuine GTV 3.0L but the engine was changed by previuos owner to 2.5 and injection fitted so we had to remove the fiberglass "bulge' bonnet. Also the reason why there are the original red striping on the trim . The bodywork has just been touched up and trim will be completely fitted later .
Owner will join forum to continue this build soon .

Hi All.... I have been "snooping" around on this forum for a while and have decided it is time to reveal myself .... my name is Giuseppe and I own this GTV (an original 3.0 SA car, but with a 2.5 motor put in by someone at some stage)... Thanks Kevin for the info and the help so far, I must say that without it I would not have been this far... These cars are VERY different to the 105 I raced!!!!

Anyway, I will be adding some more pics as things progress, the intention being to make te first event of the year at the David Piper at end of January at Zwartkops

Yeah it was good to see the old man getting stuck in - removing dust covers.
This roll cage was a bolt in cage with the rear section now been welded in and extra bracing added. As mentioned it's a compromise class so you cannot weld the entire cage in . The cage has been tied at b pillar to just above seet belt and then directly off that point at 45 degree angle to the tunnel. At least the rear section of the cage is tied into body.
Faaaargin prop is giving us stress at moment . It does not vibrate at all right through the rev range but has clanging sound from front .( maybe it's not - just noise transferr)
Prop been out 3 times with a completely new bush in front now. Sounds as if the pinch bolt on the yoke is not tightening or something is pressing against the front of the bush in flywheel so the bearing is sitting in middle of the bush .
Hopefully some one here might have some other ideas . Please let us know :x

Hi

Right - so below is a pic of the wheels that will go on....Compomotives 15" 7J -

BUT, as in previous post, the prop is a major concern!!! a "tiiingiiing" noise at low revs or as we switch off engine... :?

Hi All (from a HOT and sunny SA)......

We have made some GREAT progress since last update - again thanks Kevin and Mr Rascher, your help has been awesome!!!!!!!

We have now succeeded in getting the following done:

1) Cage is complete - all welded and bolted
2) Race seat and all bolting for seat is done
3) Harness is in
4) Steering wheel is in
5) Extinguisher is in
6) Exhaust all sorted

Sounds like a little, but it has been one HUGE battle and task!!!

It's finally getting there , not been easy though . Always picking niggles with fitting items while trying to keep full interior . Items like fitting hooter, seat, fire ext, bonnet clips have taken longer than fitting whole supension . You see us really bending the rules by cutting the rear seats to fit around the existing bolt in roll cage which was modified with a couple of extra cross braces welded in in.
Roll cage is not pretty but B and C pillars are picking up the load points nicely and are welded to the body.
Joe you need a sound clip of this motor , absolutely music - typical 2.5 sound with base :D

This is a really cool build!
Hope you can at some stage get a 3.0 Carb motor back in it.

Hi

Thanks .... The thought of getting a 3.0 back in has definitely crossed my / our minds a NUMBER of times!!!!! - The first stage is to get the car ready to comply with the rules and on to the track.... once that is done and niggles sorted, which I am sure will take their own time :) , the plan is to look at getting it back to "standard" 3.0 ltr..... Carbs, Motor, Hood, front air dam, etc.....

Will take a while,,,..... Yes - sound!!! - ok, will do!
