Down to business...

Does anyone know the complete range of short differential ratios available for the transaxle from the 4.1 up?

Who can supply them?

I have been told that the 75 1.8 litre turbo had a short diff around 4.5 ? Is that correct ? Where could I get one from?

Thanks

The 75 Turbo is 3.9
All V6 Milano's Used 3.54 except the 2.5 V6 QV

This is as far as I know!

The Alfa 75/Milano 1.8 had a 4.3 and the one with the 1.6 liter engine had a desireable 4.5

Differentials

Thanks Jose,

I thought that I was somewhere close. Do you have any contacts where one could buy one of these guys?

On reflection there is still something not quite right. Surely the 1.6 would not have had an LSD ?

I have a friend who has a 4.56 with a close ratio gearset and LSD. The gears he installed but my question remains, does the diff. come from the 1.8 turbo 75/Milano because that would make more sense.

One way or another, I am simply trying to track down some short LSD diffs (obviously). The shorter the better for my application.

2.0 carb also has the 4.3:1

No LSD these ones though, only on the ones we know about since before.

Note: I have seen factory papers on 75s with the Alfetta gear ratios and completely different rear end ratios but I have never heard about anyone coming across these undesirable boxes. Anyone seen one?

41/10 in most 2.0
43/10 in 75 1.8
41/9 in 75 1.6 and most 116/1.6
43/9 in Giulietta 1.3

I've seen varying diffs depending on the land the car was sold to. The 2.0 carb in Finalnd had 4.1 for sure.

AFAIK, no diff shorter than 4.1 has LSD as standard.

all this models had no LSD!

Only the following had LSD :

75 MILANO V6 Models - from 3.545:1(11/39) to 4.100:1(milano QV 2.5)
75 TURBO - 3.909:1 (11/43)
75 TWIN SPARK - 4.100:1 (10/41)

and SZ also had LSD wich I dont have its ratio.

Dear Mr Guest, wellcome... How weird is that Jim?

While I got your attention, got a question for you Mr Guest. Judging by what the pit crew are telling me which is that there are no shorter diffs for a transaxle than 43:10, and this ratio didn't have an LSD, is it possible to graft an LSD into a 43:10 with the four sungears like in the one in a twin spark box for a tougher set up?

For that matter, is it possible to make a much shorter diff say 5.1 for a transaxle and if so, how would one go about it apart from an inch at a time? Now there's a cue..

Fine pit-crew you got there MD  ...there are also a 4,56 and a 4,78 (no LSD of course).
Altogether, there were 4 different sets of gear ratios offered throughout the years, appearing with 8 different rear ends:
3,08/3,54/3,73/3,91/4,1/4,3/4,56/4,78.
Now if someone is determined enough, they can graft gears from one set to another and end up with something resembling a CR box like for example: 2,875/1,72/1,345/1,026/0,83. This is about the closest set with factory gears you can make. Couple this to the diff of your choice, find someone to make it into LSD for you (the proper way-no toothpaste and paint crap!) and adjust bearing clearances/preload and you're king of the block!

Differential

Cooking with gas Jim. Great info.

I suppose I have two choices. Try and source these diff ratio sets as new (if they are still available) or source them from old cars that had them fitted.

So the sticky end is and so I can begin my search, can you give me a clue as to which models used these diff ratios?
( please don't feel an obligation if it is in your book).
