And What MD did was also a top fabrication effort. Have you seen the amount of (horn) billet used? Check his effort:

But it still doesnt address the longevity of a transaxle with a big HP engine!

For street or racing I don't believe that the transaxle is going to be an issue up until you get to ridiculous amounts of horsepower and if your car is modified that much well, why not deal with transmission issues to the same degree of modification?
I think this topic is discussed a lot on the former site if it is of specific interest.
Personally my pick of the weak links is the driveshaft and I think that's the thing we should be solving permanante...

..but hey Jules, don't let my words sound like poobah and discourage your enthusiasm and I am certain it wont .It's only through challenge and probing that we get innovation and I think most of here are in that bag..
