Brembo calipers piston dust shield

Post by Murray »

I've just finished my 5th track day this season (1986 GTV6) and in changing out my Porterfield track pads to street pads I noticed that the rubber dust seals, which sit around the pistons, are toasted.I cleaned up my calipers this winter and installed new piston seals and dust seals purchased from one of our favourite suppliers. On installing the dust seals, they didn't seem to be particularly robust or fit to well. For now I've just ripped them out and am considering running without them.Anybody else done this ? What are the results ? I assume that piston life may be slightly reduced if dirt can get into the bore but maybe not.

I don't think there is a single high-performance car on the market that has dust seals because they burn away...

Thanks Mats it's good to know that I'm not the only one cooking my rubber seals.

I don't know, I think I would want to keep the dust shields. Then again it's hot and dusty in Texas where I live.
