Hey Iceman (I didn't start this!), what do you think of the VF35 for the 1.8T?? I got one almost brand new for 300Euros and I'm about to have the adaptor plate water-jet cut, for mounting on the evo cast iron. Its the start of the turbo upgrade. I think I'll use the std pistons (bought new p/l set), unless I get into a spending spree and get the forged set from Gozzoli.

One of the many snails used in the various WRX/STI versions.
Sorry I took so long, just saw your post; I was out getting all the parts together for the PS install in the Turbo. Will have to do a lot of preliminary work to make way for the idler pulley, brace bar bolted on the head with the special caps/studs, moving the thermostat a few cm forward, tilting the airbox etc, etc.

For a track only car (this is the car we talked about in Germany?) I don't know, usually almost any production turbo is too small when you talk about an all out track car. The Subarus do have large turbos though... :?

I'm not all too good at turbo sizing actually so don't trust me too much.

Hi Mats,
Actually plans have changed a bit...when I'm done with all tests, I'll see about selling the 3liter car, whole or piecewise. That will leave me with the Turbo, which will have to double for daily pig and occasional track, max contemplated power ~270-300, which is easy for the 1.8 engine. More on this later though.

Hi Jim! :D
Can you tell me please, in a view words, your opinion about TB036 and TD05?
I'm very curios to see what will happen next in your turbo-puzzle!

Regard! 8)

:D I can't leave it without commenting.
At some point they grow up and then they all want a 4 banger....... TS

A bit on topic: Had some pax laps with a 75 turbo on the ring, ~std engine, squadra chip and manual boost valve. Guess ~200-220 hp and it is fast! Only very difficult to modulate the power. And the std engine is not the most robust setup...

Fris, I'm the last guy to give turbo advice, don't have any info on the stuff at all, sorry!
My 1.8T will not be radical by any means: Proper engine rebuild with all std parts, slightly different intake cam, well made head (std valve sizes) about 8.5:1 CR, the VF35 snail with 65mm exhaust throughout (one rear silencer is enough), run initially with the std electronics. Second stage will be custom ECU and probably front-mounted intercooler. Max pressure will be no more than 1.3bar. We'll see how it turns out.
Maurizio, I'm not saying turbo is better than na or 4 better than 6, it just happens that this car has a 4cyl turbo engine. Maybe the best thing is a 200kg weight advantage to start with!

right on the spot. 4 vs 6 etc... every version car has its own (dis)advantages and charms :D
I would love to have a 200 hp streetable TS

ps intake cam: the 75 1.6/1.8 IE intake cam?

Finally, the one thing where i'm equal with Mr.Kartalamakis!

Well, my plan are simple and similar... 10548 intake cam, slightly bigger snail or make some hybrid from standard, Squadra Chip, K&N (like standard) and probable 70mm exhaust with one silencer. After that, front mounted intercooler (Mercedes Sprinter will be fine, i think :? ) and better manifold. That's all!

This is my experiment with side exhaust. It's not so pretty (temporary solution) but sound is cool! 8)

Is this a daily driver? I put a 2" rear box on my car because I couldn't stand the sound of a 2.5". I only drive it once a week. Still out runs an Audi TT225. I'm gonna put in a 2.5" to see if it makes any difference.

Actually the best would be to have one of those electronic cutouts. At WOT, make the TPS trigger the cutout and all the exhaust goes out the side. Otherwise it goes to a weeny exhaust in the rear.

Whoops, Iceman. :D

Just commenting on original poster's exhaust setup. I suppose it would be ok since you guys have the snail to quiet everything down.
