Incar video of performance-prepped 3L GTV6: sounds glorious!

Post by Bruno »

Hi all,

I have prepared a new in-car video of my 3L track-modified GTV6.

The engine is a good reliable and affordable way of getting about 220BHP, so it's a performance preparation I'd recommend.

You'll find full spec here:
http://www.alacarteparis.com/gtv6.htm

Just scroll down: the video is the first one listed, at the glorious Mas du Clos circuit in France.

Comments are in French, but hey, it's the noise that counts! :P

He does write 3L twice in the post above so I guess it's a 3.0 v6. ;)

Hi Bruno, what kind of exaust are you using on that 3L? It sounds really good. I have a GTV6 2.5 that used to sound very good until I changed the exaust. My mechanic told me to use a larger diameter exaust tubes, and now the sound is more like a low reving big motor instead of high reving screaming motor. And the worst of it, is that I didnt notice any increase in horsepower. Can anybody tell me whats the best exaust for good sound and power for the GTV6?

The Marlboro car is a 3.0 24V motor, mildly prepared with a Siebel injection.
It has 250BHP for 900Kg: very fast

I bought the grey car as is, so I don't know all details about it. The exhaust is an unknown center muffler with an OMP rear box. I think the diameter is standard. On track (ie in the films), the rear box is replaced with a straight pipe that ends in a cone shape, like a loud speaker cone to amplify your voice.

I would not recommend a bigger diameter on an italien engine. They are high-pitched screamers. Big bore exhausts are best for american or german V8's, which are bass-rich.

That is the better sounding 24v I ever heard.
I made a big mistake using larger diameter exaust tubes in terms of sound. And in terms of power does anybody know if changing the diameter of the exaust tubes changes the horsepower figures?

too small = backpressure
too large = velocity loss and may lose hp especially in the midrange.

But that is really for a separate thread.

Edit: But after looking at the video I can honestly say that I'm not sure I heard the exhaust sound at all, all I hear is the glorious intake sound! :D
Maybe a faint little murmur of the exhaust, everything else is intake.

The car looks and sounds really good. And that looks like a very nice track to drive on.
