CB S1 Cams

Post by mac74 »

Hi!

I've come about a set of Colombo & Bariani S1 camshafts. These are meant to go inside my 3.0 12V.

I'm not 100% sure but I think they have a lift of 10.4mm. Do these go in my 3.0 heads without modifications to the valveguides etc?

If someone have the specs for these cams it would be great.

I think S1 is an older grind which was replaced by what they now call the Massimo Stradale (MS) or fast road. But the lift is the same on both the S1 and MS. The intake side has 10.4mm. I have the MS grind and have a completely stock head (just cleaned up that's all). You may have to shave/pick the casting a little around the intake tappet area.

Actually maybe the MS and S1 are the same, but I recall discussing with JimKartalamkis and it seems that the S1 was what was available in the 80's and was later revised.

Zamani, your right about this being an old grind. However, It seems that these could match with todays 'stradale medio' considering the 10.4 lift.
I mailed C&B and asking for specs but they seem to be having a hard time to get back to me.

When is the limit reached concerning retainer/seal-contact or valvespring issues. I've read somewhere that <11mm lift is possible in stockheads without the need for machining.

Mac, you have everything on their website: http://www.colombo-bariani.com/catalogo.php?lang=eng
Camshaft details
Part No. AR6.SM1
Make Alfa Romeo
Model V6 2500-3000 12V
Camshafts codes AR6.104.294S.1 (1)
AR6.104.294S.2 (1)

Application Road medium
Cam lift IN 10.4
Cam lift EX 6.4
Duration 294°/264°
Timing 33°-81° / 66°-18°
Lobe center angles 114°
Valve lift TDC 0.9 / 1.0
Clearance 0.50 / 0.30
Price € 732.00
10.4 lift is same for AR 164 QV which has even higher compression ratio - but it is raised with different pistons. That leads to conclusion that every 3.0 12v head is same.

For every case, wait for few more answers since I'm not 100% sure about valveguides.

Yeah, Killaz, I have seen those figures. But since I don't know for sure that my S1-cams are identical to the stradale medio's i thought I'd ask here. I was thinking that someone might have some older list from CB with S1,S2 etc.

mac74,

sorry I have medio not massimo.

164S cams, might have 10.4, but some specs say 10.1. I think JK says 10.4 according to a spec in a 164 workshop manual (I think), but a lot of other Alfa literature says 10.1.

But I went from 164S cams to medio stradale cams and the car revs faster.
