Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
Hi Guys,
Just finishing reading the 11 pages, I want to do the same to my ts.
But then with a rotrex.
Specs
Je Pistons 8.5-1
Rotrex c30-94
Copper gasket.
Oring my liners
Intercooler 600*300*60
Stock con rods
Stock intake
Stock cams/Head
Mangement KMS
Fuel 128 octane (cheap)
All the bits and pieces must be in this week.
I want a reliable engine for track use (n'ring) aim 275 HP
Please give comments for the do's and DON'T s
Can not find a new oil-pump for a reasonable price, does anyone have a address?
Arno.
PS can someone supply me with detailed pics of a autodelta/alfa corse dedion axle.
My next project.

Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
My don't comment is, don't use the Rotrex, or any other centrifugal on an Alfa 4cyl.

Didn't Greg just tell you NOT to use a centrifugal on an Alfa 4???la_strega_nera wrote:Do use a Garret

Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
Well, I meant a centrifugal belt driven compressor. An exhaust driven compressor doesn't have the same problem because the compressor speed is NOT fixed in relation to engine speed. I can make a great argument for Roots or Lysholm design superchargers, or for turbochargers. There is no way to make a good argument for a centrifugal supercharger on these engines, at least not one based on performance.

Hi Duk, Yup, I am a little dense sometimes! I just have this reflex action, when someone says Alfa and centrifugal in the same sentance, I say NOOO, not unless you want to lose to every other forced induction car on the road.

Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance: Something new!
Its been a long time since some new hardware has been presented anywhere for the 1.8T engine. Well, after some deliberation with Paul Spruell and CP, here is a new forged piston for these engines, which will accept the well-proven factory rings. Slight valve cutouts are evident and CR is 8:1 (std CR is 7.5:1). Weight is 448gr, 11gr less than the std items. Here are a couple of pics from the first production set I got yesterday next to a std new piston. P.Spruell has been instrumental in seeing this project through and he plans to delve further into the 1.8T and TS parts world soon.

Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
Ok, we all know the 1.8T can make lots of power. If components are not up to par, things sometimes break, but I didn't ever think I would see something like the pictured item! The particular 1.8T has ~280 wheel hp and 38kgm (275ftlbs) of torque. The owner loves stoplight rubber and apparently the std flywheel has had enough! I am amazed at the way it btoke! I suppose too much traction did this but G.Gordon would know more about this!

Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
That must have been a scary experience for the driver...
Drive it like you stole it...
Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
And this is why I always warn people about drilling holes in a cast flywheel...
Imagine that happening at 200Km/h, it would take a while before you think to depress the clutch I'd say...
Pistons look sturdy, looks like quite a lot of squish though, comments?
