Some Serious HP...BMW Style

Post by SydneyJules »

A Quick link to my friend's site. Yeah I know they're Beemers, but this is all part of the reason that a naturally aspirated engine will never really cut the cheese for me!

His dad's car. You haven't heard an angry four cylinder in my books, until you've heard this thing come on boost and make its way towards 9000rpm.

When you have a friend who's car looks like this, it always makes you want more! Spins 3 gears easily.

Yuch.... :?
Now that's what I call an ugly bimmer!
trust me ,any 116 GTV with 10K -15K$ invested in would outpreform that bimmer and will have much better handling.

I think you'd need a lot of work to get more power from a 116 GTV than is in that 2002. 375hp is insane.

I have no clue as to how well the 2002's handle, so I guess that one can be fielded by someone else.

You better check out the old SA TT GTV race cars or look for a recent thread with AndrewB's 24v TT race car ,
I bet this one leaves dust to almost any Bimmer even the newer E36 and E46 series M3s,

Well, that yellow 2002 laps Wakefield Park as quick as a modified GT3 Porker, and beat an M3 CSL with suspension mods so it's no slouch, especially when you see how much of a handful it is. These guys arent too fond of the newer BMWs anywa. The White Sport Sedan has had its fair share of problems, but it's finally getting some track time now. Should go very well with a little more suspension sorting. Im sure the Glenwood TT racers would have been just as quick (Andrew's car included), however, there has only been one Alfa out of Australia that could touch the white car car (Beninca's early 90s GTV turbo, running in the same category), and I haven't seen much out of the states beside Brian Berger's, which would probably be on par with the yellow car.

Hey what would you prefer? A Boosted Euro showing it to the Nissans, Chevs, WIndsors and Clevelands is good in my book!
It's hard to fault those cars on the competition set up they both use- check out the (entirely custom) fabrication on the white car, and fuel set up in the yellow car.

They are very impressive , but the suspension base is still primative and car does not look apealing to me
Regarding the fuel setup, I have one just like this in my tt, 3 fuel pumps and custum made surge tank + fuel tank both mounted in the trunk.

Hi Jules,
We just had our Ultimate Street car challenge on Sunday and Dawies 3.5 24tt motor in Stuarts Ultima whipped the likes of 450kw DTM Mercedes, 550kw Porsche Turbo, Supercharched M3's, Subaru's,Evos etc. It was great to see Jamie(owner of the DTM Merc) take such a priceless car and thrash it on the circuit. He also brought his BMW CSL for Martin to race(ex Alfa GTA driver). I got lots of pics including Doms TT GTV budget car which they took a high milage 164 24v motor ,put a 2.5 crank in to lower the compression and slap on two turbos . Andrew was out here from UK , so he also took a lot of pics.
Also got some pics of our trip to Zwartkopps race track on Wednesday where Dawie had prepared a 3.5 12v carb GTV with newly fitted RS suspension . Nice to see Dawie put in a few laps himself and ofcourse Andrew using every millimetre of the track on his first outing. Must admit Andrew is dam good driver.
This must be one of the only countries where you can drive 25km to the circuit in a race car with no plates, put in a few laps and leave.
The best part was going to the track having a go against Dawie in my GTV(GTA conversion).

No videos unfortunately, but will have pics up by Wednesday due to limited access to the net. Hopefully Andrew will post some pics as well.

Thanks Kevin - it's was fun getting on track in S.A, even for a few quick laps! I have a few pics of the car in question....

3.5 12v - RS suspension - trick g/box - brass clutch - still a bit too heavy, and the brakes were past their best!

However we did get the RS kit 'dialled in' after a few laps, and some thought on ride height.

Played with the 3.45 twin turbo too, but on the street - Dawie was a bit 'nervous' 'bout letting me on track with it!! It's VERY quick on the street, and make a great M3 killer.
