Iridium spark plugs

Post by MR2 Zig »

With the low compression of my engine and the temp around freezing in the morning I couldnt get my Alfa to start with out using starting fluid (ether).

I recently installed a set of Denso brand iridium spark plugs and I'm now able to start the car without the ether. We've been in a bit of a cold snap for here and this has been a big help.

I've allways used Iridium sparkers in all my engines (bikes and cars). They just make things crisp and clean. Worth every penny IMHO. I use NGK brand.

Had to throw away a set of iridium plugs that was in my GTV, middle electrode was completely eroded away on 3 of 4 plugs.
The engine didn't seem to mind 5mm plug gaps though. :)

Mats what/why did the electrode get eaten away? I've run Iridiums through some very tough enviroments and harsh conditions and they have stood up very well for years. Which brand?

B7ES? Isn't that a bit hot for a race motor? I would think B9ES would be a racing choice, but if 7's don't run too hot...what can I say? Must be cold up there! That MSD only gives you ~115mJ also, kind of low for my liking.
Does anyone have an indication that some particular plug gives say, 4-8hp more? In that case, tell me the type and I'm prepared to dyno the engine when I get the cams, with these plugs comparing them with my usual N2C ones. Free power is always welcome.
Another change I will make concerns engine oil (not for this thread but since I'm here...) I will change to Motul Racing 20w-60 Synthetic. Costs ~26Euros/liter here, it had better work for that price!
