Low rpm stutter

Post by Alfaflyby »

My '85 GTV6 has developed a low rpm stutter or mis-fire. From idle to about 1500-1800rpm the car runs poorly, above this the engine runs fine. I'm guessing it is running excessively rich as it stutters at low rpm, exhaust tips have some carbon build-up, etc. I recently replaced plugs, wires, rotor and cap. It is a new malady just cropped up after the tune-up.... I have double checked all my work (no crossed wires) actually had a pro check the work and fuel pressures...all ok. Before I start investing blind does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi.

Cold or hot engine?

Sounds like an issue with the ignition timing.
Try rotating the distributor a gnats knacker either way but mark-up beforehand.

On L-jet cars I always disconnect the cold starter injector anyway.

Car runs poorly all the time below 15-1800rpm. Starting to believe its a vacuum leak, going to start the hunt this weekend...
