Nothing here which I didn't realize myself.
Of course you start a race with a FULL battery so the alternator doesn't have much work. I'm already running it at -30% speed.
As I see it the gain would be weight of the alternator and water pump. The belt which would be thrown away does not run without friction either.
This was just an idea I wanted opinions on. As the subject was up I thought it was appropriate. Most likely I'll need an alternator in the TS anyway - or a battery too heavy for my taste. I'll probably end up with just a lighter alternator.
BTW, I had to drive an A-class DB this week and in the morning it gets up to 40 deg (from ~10) in less than 2 min. In 3 minutes it is up to 80 deg. Amazing! Electric water pump?

only thing in my experience i have found to happen is the belt breaking very often as the drive shaft moves up and down. it once got to a stage where we were changing a belt before each race just to be on the safe side. and all this with a complicated pulley system as it was just to try and stop the belt from breaking. we then moved it to run off the tailshaft by making a pulley to fit on in front of the gbox but this too did break often. i say sacrifice the weight for reliability .
